He hasnt had a good special since bigger and blacker, so its probably garbage, unless his divorce left him super poor and hungry, then it has a chance.
Opening the show on cops killing black guys made it feel dated. I don't know if this has stopped happening over the past few years or if Trump hysteria is the only thing being covered by the news now but the issue certainly doesn't carry the same weight as it did when there weekly headlines about cops fucking up. Comparing this material to Chappelle's second recent special really highlights how dated it feels . Also, for a guy who excelled at the "build a case to support a harsh statement" thing, he introduced too many distractingly false premises. Rock's first few specials are some of my all time favorites and all of my favorite comics have had at least one dud special but I was hoping the divorce would inspire some classic material.
For the fuck of it, I also watched the new Katt Williams special. Admittedly, I went in with low expectations but he had a brief act out of a white guy in line to vote last Election Day which made me audibly laugh plus Katt pronouncing the word "mesothelioma" is undeniable regardless of the hackiness involved.
