If Jim can succeed at podcasting doing a character, and Opie struggles to find an audience after doing broadcasting since he was 18, it would be the ultimate indictment of how talentless he is. At least when he got fired from Sirius XM he could spin it as "fawkin Howard" to his small band of followers. If he goes independent and gets a smaller audience then Chip's show, a character born out of the O&A brand, there is no one to blame but himself. And I think that scares him.

Maybe he could listen to songs and ask his cohost if they go deep with that artist. It’s even better when his cohosts have unbelievably never heard a popular song that everyone has heard 20k times.
