I think Opie is now genuinely confused on if he is trolling or making an honest attempt at humor. He always hid behind the defense that if the joke didn’t work that “thats the bit”, but the the two have become so intertwined. This is the quality that truly makes Opie Chip. It’s the essense of Chip.
