Comedians that are good on the radio, but terrible doing stand up
10 2018-01-14 by numba13
I'll start with Dan Soder. Saw him on Netflix and he did the same shitty "I'm a pothead and I love my grandma bits" that hes been doing for the past 5 years. Shoutouts to Nate Bargetzi, he has a niggas ribs. hurting today.

1 has gotta be Jim Norton

I'll give Norton some credit on his last stand up special. Haven't heard it since release, but i recall it being somewhat decent compared to his other shit. He's still and unfunny hack on a stage tho

I saw Norton live around 4 or 5 years ago and he was absolutely terrible. I didn’t laugh once, it was stunning.
1 Taureg01 2018-01-14
Nortons problem is he is uncomfortable to look at, has the worst body language, blinks constantly and has no stage presence.

Did you forget Anthony bombing at the roast?
1 numba13 2018-01-14
Since when is that retard funnier than soder? Even when soder would be on O&A we'd all say he was the new and improved anthony

Dice. With out a doubt. I’ve been saying for years that I think Dice is easily one of the funniest guys I’ve ever heard in my life but I think 95% of his stand up is absolute garbage. All except The Day the Laughter Died. There’s definitely some great shit on there. The “An Hour Back” bit is hilarious.

Gonna relisten to that album. It's the only dice stand up I've heard besides his nursery rhyme stuff.

I think no apologies is pretty good too.
"dis is how I like it. Stereo pussy!"
1 BurntChrysler 2018-01-14
Buying standup albums is usually a mistake, you never really want to listen to them more than once. The Day The Laughter Died is the exception, I’ll listen to it a couple of times a year and it’s still really funny.

All stand up is terrible. All of it. Worst format for comedy.

I have to agree widgya. I liked Luis ( the rapist one ) but that at the beginning around 2007 I think but that's pretty much it and it was mainly down to his disgusting habits and his delivery.
There's something really unfunny about having to work up to a forced punchline for me. It's like what Norton could do so well in the moment on da show loses it's inherent comedic quality when it's not a random ( if familar and likely ) moment.
1 Dennyislife 2018-01-14
Yep. I just can't buy into the format/showyness of it all. There's a reason you laugh more with your friends than at stand ups.
1 I_Hate_Knickers_Deux 2018-01-14
I don't have friends but yes.
1 antchya 2018-01-14
Me too. Only enemies. No friends.
1 I_Hate_Knickers_Deux 2018-01-14
I'll get you one of these days.

There's about 8-10 comedians who's stand up is actually funny but most of those guys are dead or haven't put out anything in awhile that's fmfinny.

Sketch comedy is way better?
1 Dennyislife 2018-01-14
Very hit and miss.
1 PHDinSounding 2018-01-14
Sketch comedy sucks my dick
1 Dennyislife 2018-01-14
Isn't that a good thing?
1 PHDinSounding 2018-01-14
Have you seen my dick?

Stand up is an archaic form of entertainment. The younger generation prefers spontaneity and authenticity, not rehearsed and planned shit. Stand up will go the way of vaudeville. Ironically, all these comedians doing radio shows and podcasts say “it’s great for my stand up career,” but ultimately the abundance of radio shows and podcasts will kill stand up.

Artie Lange. A naturally funny guy who's lived an interesting life, but his stand-up is just okay.
1 joomommyhappy 2018-01-14
You're being extremely generous. Artie's stand-up stinks on ice!
1 Psych555 2018-01-14
Definitely Artie. He's great on the radio but his stand up is the hackiest shit he's been repeating for the last decade.
1 TinKnockinMoroccan 2018-01-14
Basically all of them. Bob Kelly might be the worst because he acts like a rockstar.
1 chomp-chomp-chump 2018-01-14
Well, I mean, he did play a drummer in a fictional band for a dog shit tv show, I mean come on!
1 PHDinSounding 2018-01-14
Nice leather jacket bob
1 UnfunnyFaggott 2018-01-14
Nate Barghatzi's standup is actually really good.
1 numba13 2018-01-14
Yeah loved his Netflix shit
1 conchopeterpumper 2018-01-14
Right, Nate is an example of the opposite.
1 Jungies 2018-01-14
It's clean, too; I don't think there's a single cuss-word or family-unfriendly reference in there.
1 LoloTheRogan 2018-01-14
Joe Rogan. Artie when he was lucid on the stern show . Mark Normand
1 FrankieBianchi 2018-01-14
Joe Rogan isn't funny on radio though
1 LarryKleist711 2018-01-14
He's not not naturally funny. He has to smoke a shot ton of weed just to get to being uptight. Air Shaffir is another one. He's not naturally funny but he has a decent podcast.

Joe materese

Jim Norton

I saw Soder live and thought he was hilarious.
1 buddaycousin 2018-01-14
Patrice was much better on the radio.
1 AyeThatsAGoodNagger 2018-01-14
I honestly would put Jim Norton and Artie Lange in this category. And the opposite is also true: some great stand ups aren’t at all conversationally funny. Dave Chappelle is one.
1 simbad_reb 2018-01-14
Mark Normand is funnier on stage than he is on the radio.
1 twoliterjimmy 2018-01-14
Good topic.
Soder has been good when I've seen him. Big Jay has been great but it's mostly crowdwork so I can see if it varies from night to night. Normand was good once and so so the other (to be fair he legit had notebook paper on stage and was just trying material out) List is the best comic out of this younger crop and absolutely kills every time. Chris DiStefano is ok at best radio most of the time but his stand up was surprisingly good. Nick Mullen did like 30 minutes off diarrhea jokes and I was homicidal by the end. Again, I think it was a trying out material situation but it was awful. Virzi is decent on the radio but standup was ok at best Vos is great, lethal crowd work. Norton is decent. Recycled material, stale tranny jokes and outdated references hold him back but I still get tickets when he comes around. I've enjoyed every Kelly show I've seen. I like the big dumb idiot. I don't mind Florentine on the radio but his stand up was the worst shit I've seen. Zero material. It was literally "who does CrossFit in here?" followed by stale/unfunny rant. CK sucked. Dude is beyond overrated.
1 Superbad415 2018-01-14
I thought soders special was funny, but It was the first time I’ve seen it I’d be pretty dissapointed if I saw the same material in another medium
1 numba13 2018-01-14
