Stern at least had some plausible deniability when he kept Artie on staff after multiple fuck ups. Ant and Keith can't even pretend that Artie's train wreck status was a, if not the, key factor in hiring him.

Lost in Artie's apparently bottomless descent is the fact that Stern enabled and exploited him for years.

On top of the drug stuff, there was Artie's explosive temper; throwing CDs at Sal, going after his assistant Teddy, etc.

Any decent, responsible organization would have shit-canned him after the 2nd or 3rd incident, not the 200th.

Artie wanting to come back really fucks up their scam. They can no longer pretend he's coming back and that they want him back, they can't keep calling it the AA show, and they can't keep the price that high.
