What's this subs opinion on Todd Barry. I thought his last special was great. He has his own original style. It was refreshing.

Seems like younger comedians are all ripping someone else off. or multiple people.

Todd Barry rules.

He's funny. I'd love to hear what really happened with him and Jimmy Martinez. Don't know why he hasn't been on J&S.
6 chomp-chomp-chump 2018-01-12
Jim doesn't like to be around other comedians, as it may influence his work.
4 FriendToHumans 2018-01-12
I wouldn't be surprised if Jim is feuding with him. Jim is a bitch who secrectly holds grudges against people. He has a history of that. Then he acts surprised when Bonnie thinks he's doing it to her.
3 Lasagna_Hat 2018-01-12
Todd Barry was on some steps watching the act backstage. Jimmy told him to move, Todd didn't move or said something snarky so Jimmy grabbed him by the shoulder and yanked him down the stairs. He tumbled and Patrice cackled
Jimmy told it on LOS. He's an obnoxious human that got Patrice to laugh once
1 eastriverdriveII 2018-01-12
who got Patrice to Laugh Todd or Jimmy?
2 Lasagna_Hat 2018-01-12
Jimmy throwing little Todd Barry down the stairs made Patrice laugh
2 PHDinSounding 2018-01-12
Jimmy tossed gay ass todd barry down a flight of steps
2 PHDinSounding 2018-01-12
Jimmy martinez. Not gay jim norton

the worm cant throw a 90 year old women down the stairs even if his viking princesses life depended on it
1 eastriverdriveII 2018-01-12
I'm sure Todd was being a sarcastic little prick, but wasn't Patrice there as well?
2 PHDinSounding 2018-01-12

Is that how it really happened? What did Barry do afterward, was he all fucked up?
What happened to the groceries?
3 holodog 2018-01-12
I like him. He had the unfunniest episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee but it was mostly because he didn't seem to care and was silent a lot.
2 C-T 2018-01-12
Love Todd Barry, had some good gags in his latest one. I like how he’s not trying to be the cool guy, but his self deprecation doesn’t come across as pathetic like a lot of comedians these days do.
2 DeafandMutePenguin 2018-01-12
I love his high energy delivery.
1 FriendToHumans 2018-01-12
if you're being sarcastic then you must like dane cook.
1 DeafandMutePenguin 2018-01-12
I love everything he does. Especially that great movie with Jessica Simpson!
2 IggysGlove 2018-01-12
His little story he had on Louie was probably my favorite thing ever on that show.
That and the time Jimmy said to the Russian lady "so you speak no English? My dick is 9 feet long...and it stinks."
And that time Dave attel said the thing about not wanting to follow Greer Barnes.
2 ChippusMaximus 2018-01-12
Todd Barry is funny. He's quiet and subtle.
"So I walked up to this guy with a neck tattoo and said hey buddy you forgot to not do that."
1 TheGhostOfAbeVigoda 2018-01-12
I like him. I absolutely hate his super sedated, monotone "you-can-tell-I'm-a-sarcastic-prick-by-my-tone" voice.
1 FriendToHumans 2018-01-12
It bothered me more when he was younger.
1 plane2nowhere 2018-01-12
I liked his crowd work special. Haven't seen the new one on Netflix though.
1 That70smoke 2018-01-12
He's the guy who I've heard mentioned so many times by other comedians that I assumed he's good, but I've never actually googled.
1 deep_legal_shit 2018-01-12
how is this not a vosroll
1 4lexM 2018-01-12
He's no Brendon Walsh.
1 pj530i 2018-01-12
I got bored with the new special pretty quick. Not offensively bad, just the same level of mediocrity that almost all Netflix content is at.
I don't really understand how almost every comedian can make me laugh on podcasts or radio, but almost none have good pre-written jokes. Dan Soder is the worst example of this. His netflix thing was unwatchable but I love him on the bonfire.
1 [deleted] 2018-01-12
It's a little long. I couldn't watch it all the way through. Watched it in two halves.
1 Doc_McCoyXYZ 2018-01-12
There's nothing special about a "special" anymore. Years ago it was a huge thing that people put tons of work into. Now people like Netflix found out "all you have to do is slap a famous persons name on it (Childish Gambino) and people will watch it, no matter how mediocre."
They're like trailers for horror movies. They put all the good scares and everything that entaaahce you to watch it in the trailer, then when you go to see it, the movie is complete shit. That Judd Apatow special was literally one of the worst 'specials' I've ever seen. God almighty he is fucking awful. No wonder he quit stand up.
1 pj530i 2018-01-12
I didn't hate Apatow's. It wasn't good, but was 100% "mediocre netlix content". He talked shit about his kid a lot which I appreciated.
If you want actual awful, try watching Aditi Mittal's netflix special. Even if you ignore the constant switching between Hindi and English, the jokes are painfully bad. Indescribably bad.
0 Doc_McCoyXYZ 2018-01-12
It was such pandering, easy garbage. I got through 15 minutes and tapped, it was all about how much smarter women are than men, how smart his daughters are, how dumb (white) men are. It wasn't even funny, I mean that's obnoxious and safe/easy target-y enough, but if he had an original or legitimately funny take on it, I'd give it to him. He didn't. He just lives in his endless echo chamber of ass kissery, and this special is a perfect example of it. It barely felt like he even tried, it was just like "I want a special, and I can have one."
I was watching it at my buddys house with his wife, and it was enraging me to the point I was literally squirming on their couch and had to demand they turn it off. It was like that part in Django where Candy's sister is playing Beethoven on the harp and it's driving Shultz mad, because he's German and offended by their horrid misappropriation of his culture. "STOP PLAYING BEETHOVEN!"

please stop yelling at me
0 Doc_McCoyXYZ 2018-01-12
Did you see Sarah Silverman's? Im not kidding, that's the worst special Ive ever seen. Not only was the content abysmally bad (she does a shitload of crowd work), but the way they shot it was seemed like whoever was in charge had no idea how to film a special. They made the most bizarre editing choices, like cutting away from her or into some other weird shot right in the middle of a punchline. It's super choppy, the angles are weird, the whole thing is a fuckin mess. It felt like she was walking down the street and someone just pulled her into the Largo and was like "Hey, you wanna record a set?" (Sorry, you really let the tiger out of the cage this morning, pj. Too much coffee. And I was out til 3am with a black stripper I met at a mic and I didn't get to fuck, all I got was a lousy blowjob in a Del Taco drive through line that didn't make me cum and gave me blue balls)
1 pj530i 2018-01-12
I don't remember a single thing about it other than bailing out of it after less than 5 minutes.
I remember being annoyed at ron bennington for recommending that pregnant asian lady's special so enthusiastically. It was just as unfunny as every other netflix special.
1 Doc_McCoyXYZ 2018-01-12
Oh my god. Oh my god. Ali Wong?? Dude she is worshipped out here. I do not fucking understand it. The word "genius" is CONSTANTLY referenced to her. I don't get what Im missing. Ive seen her twice at the Comedy Store, and her entire 20 minute set is "baby, baby, pregnancy, baby, husband, vagina, pregnancy, husband baby." Im like "Wow, this is fucking 'genius.'" Maron worships her like a deity. I didnt even find her mildly amusing. I fucking hate stand up comedy.
1 americanmook 2018-01-12
Ali Wong was great when I watched her, but I knew her delivery was awful. Ali Wong might have had the worst delivery I have ever heard in my life, including the seinfeld and hedberg clones.
1 Doc_McCoyXYZ 2018-01-12
She did this thing where she was wide eyed and "at her wits end, you guys." The whole thing was done in this stressed out voice/delivery; I swear it wasn't completely exhausting by minute #9, but just kept doing it.
As usual when a female comic was on, half the room was laughing - the other women in there. Women have no ability to be legit across the board funny, they only know how to make other clams laugh.
0 Bronan_the_Brobarian 2018-01-12
On stage is an act. Most comedians are delivering a scripted monologue down to every pause and chuckle. Few comedians speak to the audience like Chappelle and Patrice
1 mkubrick 2018-01-12
His style and vernacular is taken fairly often by hack comedians
1 MSteve1232000 2018-01-12
“I bet they don’t like him because he’s not an offensive racist or alt-right-troll.” - Most people, if you asked them what this sub thinks of Todd Barry

Loved his Crowd Work special. Haven't seen his new one.
1 RaqioFan 2018-01-12
I've seen him live a few times, including one of his crowd work shows---great comic
1 sanfrancisco69er 2018-01-12
I saw him in Albany, NY with like 4 other awful comics, and it was a huge place but it was a really dumb show at like 3 PM on a thursday or something and only the first 5 or 6 rows were filled, and the other fags did their sets like normal and he went last and did no material and talked the whole time about how bad the audience turnout was and got way more laughs than the other guys
1 pastorpotluck 2018-01-12
He's great and I think his standup translates to specials better than most. He's also hilarious live. That said, his podcast was one of the most boring things I've ever heard.

He's one of those guys that minds his own fucking business quite well.
