There is an urban legend in Japan about a ghostly woman who wears a surgical mask. It is said that she was once remarkably beautiful, but her husband caught her cheating with a neighbor and mutilated her face beyond recognition.

Now she approaches strangers in the night and asks them "Am I pretty?" If they answer no, she kills them on the spot. If they answer yes, she takes the mask off. At this point, nobody can hide their revulsion and they start screaming. The woman, heartbroken and enraged, then murders them.
