sirius didn’t drop the ball. maybe 40 truckers actually listened to them live everyday and they were already being overpaid. as mentioned, they could’ve done it themselves.
instead opie did what he always did which was complain and wait around for the company to dish out thousands of dollars and resources (on top of a giant undeserved salary) for superfluous shit he felt entitled to like studio renovations, bus trips, animation festivals, a pay-per-view(?) and whatever else.
plus, just look at them. ant has dozens of nipple sized holes in his face and opie has two giant tits. you’d think ant was motorboating him for 20 years straight. they’re not people you’d think to record.
It's for the best. Radio magic is a real thing and I don't think the content of the show would have gone to the places it did if guests knew they were being filmed. Also, Ant doing a Reese Witherspoon impression on video would be cringe, but him doing it on radio was gold.
Opie is hard enough to listen to. Actually seeing the studio trying to ignore him after throwing out a dud, sitting there fake laughing trying to fit in, or doing that “I don’t know how to be funny so I’ll just yell loudly” thing would’ve been too much for me to take.
Opie didn't want the video element as much as he said he did. If they had it we would all see the passive aggressive faces he made when he disliked something, and the snapping at people.
Anthony had admitted Post-Opie that their ratings weren’t that great at Sirius so why would Sirius commit a dime to them video-wise when you have a non-popular show with ugly-ass people?
