On a completely unrelated note, is it offensive to call an old Asian lady "Mama-san" like Laurence Fishburne in Apocalypse Now?
That is dependent on the old Asian lady.
Generally if they run a brothel or a tiny restaurant it is appropriate to refer to them as Mama-san.
Even though that's a Japanese honorific when I was in Korea there was older Asian ladies running small kitchens that everyone called Mama-san.
