I'm all in on the lentil soup
25 2017-11-29 by oandauser
Made a batch last night. I am not an obese man, in fact I am average (5'10" 167 lbs); but we can all do better-- right guys?
Will use more garlic next time. Came out alright. Like to add some hot sauce. Maybe will try and spice it up a little more next time also. I know it sounds crazy, but after one serving I feel like a whole new man.
Wash it down with a Kombucha.

We must all remember to say our prayers and eat our lentils.

You hear anything else about your lil incident after your hunting trip?

Kombucha. Are you aware that it contains a small trace of alcohol? Are you trying to get me to relapse! I sniffed a beer at 12 years old and went on an alcoholic rage for 24 hours! Shame on you for enabling someone in recovery!

Hope you shart your panties.

Lentils really clean you out. Do you get Puy or "French" lentils? I think they have to be from Puy to be called Puy lentils- they're smaller and darker green. Way better.
I make a really nice Chorizo and lentil stew with some dried mushrooms, carrot and potato.

i can heavily recommend red lentils.
1 aprosbro 2017-11-29
I like firm lentils, so red lentils just turn to mush on me.

not with a pressure cooker and 15 minutes

I went with green lentils for first attempt. Firmer lentil.

I'm telling you get these french lentils, they're so much better.

My advice would be to use a nonvinegar based source for spice. Maybe even crushed pepperuncino or Mexican chili powder. I love spice, but the idea of dumping just any random sauce in a soup makes my stomach turn

my initial attempt was pretty bland. I just added some garlic chili sauce and it jazzed it up a little. Next time I will use some of the suggestions here.

Let me know how the Mexican powder goes. Hell what do I know, try vinegar based hot sauce, but I just don't think it'll work

Try cutting up some habaneros. They clean my right out and the capsaicin leads to a pretty solid body high.

There's a local Middle Eastern place that makes a good one. Fresh warm bread and delicious hummus, too. But it's not too oily, which I hate.

Which one?
1 WhippingHuskies 2017-11-29
Yes. Another recruit. I made another pot today. Highly recommend chopping broccoli rabe, and throwing that in as well. Extra magnificence of the outgoing feces.

OP, did you use the traditional Spanish recipe I originally posted?
1 onemancrimespree 2017-11-29
I use the recipe you posted as my base... I make more almost every 2 days... I can't stop.
1 WhippingHuskies 2017-11-29
Yes. A lot of people thought I was maybe fucking around, until they tried it. I consume to small bowls a day so as to not overdue it.
1 oandauser 2017-11-29
I didn’t. Can you dm me it?

This was the post that started the beautiful shits here.

I always throw in a little bit of half-and-half cream at the end.

I put three kinds of paprika in mine - sweet, smoked, and hot. Gives it nice color and flavor.
1 WhippingHuskies 2017-11-29
This right here, is the secret. A teaspoon of the sweet, with half teaspoon of the hot, seems to be the best balance for me. Throw in 2/3 bay leaves as well.

What’s your recipe?
1 oandauser 2017-11-29
I did a pretty basis recipe of oil, onion, carrot, and celery in pot. Then add lentils and 2 qt vegetable stock. Along with salt pepper cumin. Bring to boil. Then simmer for 45 mins.
I’ll probably do something similar next time but add garlic to step one and also probably Serrano peppers.

I like to boil my lentils separately, rinse them thoroughly until the water runs clear, then add them at the very end to the pot of already cooked broth, meat, and veggies. It takes the griminess away from the finished soup

I Heard rumors about a fat Cuban chef who will pretend to be your friend and hang out with you for money. Maybe he can help you with your next batch for the right price.

It's fucking amazing to me that for all things this sub has come to represent, one of them is lentil soup recipes.
1 halareous 2017-11-29
I hate carrots and celery what can I substitute them with
1 FrancinesToiletBaby 2017-11-29
Onions, mushrooms, small diced potatoes, canned tomatoes, spinach or cabbage leaves, garbanzo beans, okra....
1 halareous 2017-11-29
thanks babe

I ordered lentil soup in a fancy restaurant in Rome and it was terrible.
1 cringingdouchechills 2017-11-29
Why the fuck are you people having a serious conversation about soups?
1 52017 2017-11-29
Here's a helpful tip when firing up the lentils:
For an added kick and totally guilt free flavor, think about adding a shake or two of Mrs. Dash seasoning. From the time tested Original Blend, to their zesty Southwest Chipotle, you can't lose.
It's sodium free, but your taste buds will never know it!

Enough. About. The. Soup.
1 egates09 2017-11-29
What a bunch of old Jewish ladies you all sound like.
And I'm just as guilty, that soup was simply to die for!
