It was THE defining show of the 2000's and 2010's in my opinion. Everyone who was someone in the NY comedy scene was on that show. Bill Burr, Louie CK, Rich Vos, Bobby Kelly, and so on.
Patrice O'Neal was one of those regulars. He and the crew were often on shows like Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. They weren't scared of censorship. Robert Kelly talks about how Patrice was censored on that show not for using a potentially offensive epithet, but rather for saying the word "Buick" because it wasn't a sponsor. Case in point, those guys, Keith Robinson, everyone in that NY comedy community was hilarious.
There are just so many memories I have of Patrice that I can't forget. His epic rant on Face Off where he and Jim Norton argued, until Norton changed his mind and he turned a 180, was probably one of the best moments on the show. Others include his rant on how we should have less states and consolidate them into regions. If you haven't already, check out Elephant in the room, which is his last special before he passed. It is arguably his best work of all time.
Every year Bill Burr and other comics gather around NYC for the Patrice O'Neal benefit and bust each other. It's great because it helps to reinforce the impact he had on the comedy community, both on the radio and on Fox News when he'd appear as a pundit (google on Youtube sometime). He was a titan of the comedy industry I cherish so dear and today definitely is a day to remember what he brought so many of us for so many years, laughter, joy, and hilarious damn commentary on society in general.
Actually Jim turned Patrice on Face/Off. Patrice loved it and Jimmy hated it, and Jimmy turned Patrice around completely. Made him realize how terrible that movie is.
My favorite Patrice bit, to which I listen to almost weekly, was black serial killers. Couple of black guys sleeping in a buick when people thought they would build their own helicopter and fly away always puts a smile on my face.
