A few years ago I was re-routed through Newark and decided at the spur of the moment to head to Atlantic City by train. This was way more complicated than it should've been, and it involved me waiting to catch a connecting train through Camden, which I immediately knew was a mistake once I got off the first train.
Nothing bad actually happened but TLDR I took a train through most of New Jersey and it's a complete shit hole.
