It's proven withdrawal from opiates is just like having the flu. He's talked about on AA a few times now how rough detox is and why he had to keep up his addiction. Obviously it's not fun mentally, but physically it's nothing.

It's compared to the flu because of similar symptoms, but it's far more intense. I've had bad flus and I've gone through opiate withdrawal and it was much worse than the flu with the body aches and insomnia.
I'm not saying Artie is right not to quit, because he should have quit years ago. But to say "oh, it's no big deal" is also wrong. Even quitting cigarettes cold turkey is difficult.

The worst part is the RLS that never goes away. You'll be dead tired and still not able to sleep cuz of it. Epsom salt baths helps a lot though.

I think the big difference between the flu and withdrawals is wanting to kill yourself, plus knowing that all you need to stop the pain is a bit. I'm not a junky fyi.

With the flu you can just sleep all day. With withdrawal you can't sleep even with Ambien because your body is panicking without the drugs. So it's nearly 24 hours a day for a month where maybe you can sleep two hours in a night. I'll take a month of the flu over 1 week of opiate withdrawal.
And again, I am not defending Artie or any addict by saying this, because it is not an excuse. And Artie is not being held back by this anyway. He's been cycling off of drugs for 22 years now, he's used to it.

Artie's addiction to drugs has very little to do with him being scared to withdrawal. The guy has enough money to check into rehab and be giving drugs the whole time so the withdrawal is way easier. However as soon as he leaves he going to get high

Look, opiate withdrawal is no picnic and for some people it's a real motherfucker to bear, everyone gets that aspect of it. But Artie has a fucking deformed nose from his drug abuse.
