Ha Long Bay is hit or miss depending on the group you get. My favorite part of Vietnam was going to the random little cities/towns where they've never seen a white person before - Quih Nhon and Dong Hoi were nice little places with nothing going on - no touristy places, just interesting to visit.
Da Lat is also a favorite of many, I thought it was just okay - but a cool place worth visiting up in the mountains. Liked Da Nang a lot, nothing really going on there but kind of like a laid back beachy city.
Make sure you spend a lot of time eating/drinking coffee, I think that's the best part. Vietnam was my favorite country in Southeast asia, but I spent a good amount of time elsewhere. Let me know if you need any tips
