Even though the original TV movie is a lot more corny and cheap, it has fucking personality that this movie doesn't have. Bland, boring, shit jokes, and a terrible Pennywise. I missed Tim Curry.
It was seriously "Stranger Things," only they fight a demonic clown this time instead. I can't believe what an obvious nostalgia grab/cottail ride of Stranger Things this movie was, right down to casting Mike as one of the kids. None of it was scary, it was more "entertaining."
I never read It, but it just seems like it doesn't lend itself to the screen whatsoever. There's too many characters and too much nuance to be able to cover it all effectively in 2 hours. I really liked Pennywise though, some of the FX and shit they used on him was really cool.
I didn't like it either. It's my favorite book ever so I had high expectations after seeing it at 90% on RT. I'm not sure what people found so great about it. The most interesting parts of the book were just left out of the movie.
No but I did go to one of those once in...Warren, I think. They used to have a second run theater in the Warren mall. That place was the fucking worst. It felt like every stereotype coming to life. Wiggery white kids, loud black people, tough-looking Mexican guys in wifebeaters. I don't know if it's still there but it was an experience.
The main bully in the new one doesn't racially taunt the black member of the losers' club. He's a deranged sociopath but thank heavens he draws the line at racial bigotry. There were n-bombs dropped left and right in the book and miniseries.
I think it was a smart move. If they had a white kid calling a black kid a nigger that would be what everyone would focus on in today's climate. It would've been seen as a political move, as stupid as that is.
A psychotic high school bully in the '80s would absolutely belittle the blackness of a target. The fat kid and the girl have their deficiencies pointed out by him. It took me out of the movie that the black kid got menaced and/or beaten up in a few scenes with zero racial commentary from his tornentors. It wasn't true to situational reality, and was a blatantly pandering gesture to today's crybaby sensitivity. I'm not saying he had to exclaim DIRTY NIGGER APE SUBHUMAN in closeup, but at least make some kind of disparaging cultural reference. I think viewers, even the more easily triggered, would've gotten that it was in keeping with bully methodology.
I haven't seen the movie so I can't say if it ruins it or not. I get your critique though. One part of Fury that really bugged me was no racist remarks towards Michael Pena. I'm not even sure if hispanic men were allowed with white soldiers, I know blacks weren't.
Also the bully, Henry Bowers - in the book he learned to be a racist from his dad, who was a PTSD marine from WW2 and also a failure of a farmer who took his frustrations out on the black kid's father, who was a more successful farmer. In the movie, the psycho's dad is...surprise, surprise...a bigoted cop. No agenda here.
I might've been too drunk when I got to the theater, but I'm pretty sure the bullies in the movie taunt the fat kid by calling him "Tits" and it made me think of this sub.
I spent all summer reading the book and having a wonderful time and the movie sucked railroad spikes. The sodomites in the Stephen king Reddit are pretending like it wasn't horse shit. I hate the internet. Oh no, mike was barely featured as a kid.. the movie didn't steamroll the best character in the book..

You should have used a more recent picture. Sam wishes his hairline was that forward.
1 CuckistaniSacrifices 2017-09-09
Holy shit, his current hairline is perfect for Pennywise.
1 RacistPigeon 2017-09-09
Pennywise is more fuckable, and I hate clowns.

Yeah I feel like I saw a different movie. Everyone is sucking this movies dick and it was so much worse than the made-for-tv mini series on ABC.

It wasn't that bad

Like the kid orgy scene?
1 KangolVos 2017-09-09
I'm sitting in the theater right now. I hope that you are wrong.
1 A_Friendly_Creeper 2017-09-09
Are you by yourself or with people?
1 strappingyoungladdie 2017-09-09
Do you really need to ask?
1 KangolVos 2017-09-09
By myself and my goodness I need to do that more often. I don't know why the fuck people want to talk during movies.
1 turnthemaround 2017-09-09
I think that was same motive as James Holmes
1 A_Friendly_Creeper 2017-09-09
As in, "I'm about to go HAM, Hard-as-a-mutha-fucka" ?
1 KangolVos 2017-09-09
Maybe 70% of the theater was white.
1 A_Friendly_Creeper 2017-09-09
MJR?

100% of the theater was white where I saw it. Then Ant came in....
1 jofreal 2017-09-09
The clown parts were good. I think it would've been better off as a Netflix miniseries though.
1 Robert-T-Pooner 2017-09-09
I love a good scary movie and all, but that picture on the right is just too much.

And he got his peckah sucked by the other bully.
1 jofreal 2017-09-09
The kid who did the sucking really got short shrift in the new one. Very quickly dispatched.
1 A_Friendly_Creeper 2017-09-09
Poor sexually confused little runt.
1 KangolVos 2017-09-09
Too bad, too. I was hoping to see his fridge or some of the other fucked up things.
1 strappingyoungladdie 2017-09-09

The movie wasn't horrible but I expected more from it. It was more like a basic monster movie, kind of gay.
