Yes, but the video of that tranny got delivered to you seamlessly over a decentralized peer to peer network without you having to do anything. I've played around with the site and it's running faster and smoother for me than youtube.
im tech literate and have a job involving computer stuff but never got into any learning of seeding/peer to peer whatever shit. I don't torrent cause i tried once when i was drunk and couldn't figure it out.
could you explain that stuff to me as if i was opie?
Say there's a file called "GoodJokes.txt". A radio host distributing GoodJokes.txt is called a Seed. The audience hearing GoodJokes.txt is called a peer. Now the audience can also share GoodJokes.txt with their friends, which would make them a seed to their friends, who will now be peers. All-in-all "GoodJokes.txt" gets shared pretty easily.
If you have a second radio host also sharing "GoodJokes.txt" then even more bits of goodjokes.mp3 gets shared even faster. A peer doesn't have to wait for the first radio show host to share his bit of "GoodJokes.txt" because the second host has got his bit ready.
Now, sometimes you have a peer who downloads "GoodJokes.txt" until they have the complete set, but don't share them back with the network. They just take it for themselves or even rename it and share it under AmySchumerJokes.txt. This is called a leech.
A "swarm" is a collection of peers and hosts just riffin' on stuff from "GoodJokes.txt"
Also, there's an attack on torrent networks called poisoning. This is when somebody is pretending to share "GoodJokes.txt" but they actually share something that doesn't belong to that file at all. It can be very damaging and break the swarm up entirely.
