Actually, for mature service companies like Netflix they care a lot more about keeping customers paying each month rather than growing subs. It's far more profitable to keep a million existing customers paying $10 each month than gaining a million new ones.

So you could get the same amount of new subscribers each month and still have profits grow exponentially as long as churn is low.

So what's most important is that the content they produce is entertaining for their current customers.

If not enough people who use their service tuned into it then yes they lost money. Same as a TV show on a network loses money if it doesn't attract viewers which causes ratings to sink which makes advertisers want their ads pulled from a sinking ship and put on higher rated shows. Netflix doesn't have advertisers but they have a responsibility to put on shows their paying customers want to see.

I would assume Netflix keeps track of who watches what and knows what people are into. So they pay her 11 million because they assume enough of their subscribers are into her to make it worthwhile. But suddenly they realize not enough people tuned it to make it financially feasible to have her do anymore specials. Theoretically they may have lost nothing despite her special stinking but they lost views and could have put on a show or movie that would have made more sense from a viewership standpoint. So in the long run they lost because if her special had been great they could have signed her to another one with the promise that word of mouth at how amazing her "Fat pig in Cow skin" special was would make more people sign up to see a new one. But it didn't and so they lost but will have to pay her as if she's great or risk being called anti feminist. They'll probably even have to throw even more money at her and give her another special to make the SJW's happy and prevent themselves from being attacked for "discriminating" against her by not signing her back up.

No one fucking "deserves" equal pay. That's not how capitalism works. A janitor shouldn't make the same pay as the CFO of a company. Women shouldn't get paid the same as men, because they have a clam instead of a cock.

Everyone should (and generally do) get paid based on performance, experience, etc. Just because men generally make more doesn't make anything 'unfair,' it means they earned it for a myriad of reasons. The fucking entitlement of people in 2017, I swear to god.
