Listen here buddy, Kanye West revolutionized hip-hop. Before College Dropout in 2004 hip-hop was dominated by gangster rap and southern crunk rap. Kanye gave way to an entire generation of backpack rappers and shaped the genre into what it is today. You can see his blatant influence on everyone from Logic, J. Cole, and Lupe Fiasco to Drake, BOB and Mac Miller. Not to mention a discography that goes unrivalled in hip-hop. 7 releases: 4 classics, 3 debatable. Compare that against any highly influential rapper from Jay-Z to Eminem to Snoop Dogg (who's discography is essentially a landfill with flakes of gold littered through out it) and you can see that Kanye West is an extremely influential and creative figure in hip-hop (perhaps top 5 most influential of all time). With that said, Sam Roberts is a dim witted Neanderthal with a tumbleweed flailing around on his misshapen skull. OP, You're a silly cunt and this post was unnecessary drivel.

Mos Def, Immortal Technique, Outkast(which i wouldnt qualify as southern crunk rap)Sage Francis, Dead Prez, and Atmosphere all existed before 2004.
Of those you mentioned only Drake even rings a bell.
D.I.Y. crust punk rap happened long before Kanye.

Are you going to list every hip-hop act that existed before 2004 and act like that's a worthy rebuttal? All of those artists sound nothing like Kanye West with the exception of maybe Outkast, whose influence was also immense.

Not at all. I bring those up because as a person who loves and plays metal and came from crust punk scenes, those peoples songs make me want to dig deeper into their catalogue. Im not a hip hop guy, but I fuckin love those guys.
Ive only overheard Kanye songs and it meant nothing. Lights Flashing? Is that what its called? I know that one. I like it. Good track.
But even so; his music never grabbed me and said, "Dig deeper! Hear more!" Its pop rap. Its club shit. Maybe? Dance music? I dont know.
None of it is moving or poetry or art or has any sort of message that I can hear.
Its pop-hop. And boring as shit.

Common, a tribe called quest, the Beastie boys, Kool Keith and a shit ton more early 90's late 80's rappers were "backpack" rappers. Kanye did not revolutionize anything really.

Also, is that actually Troy? Cuz Im pretty new to this and am on the outside of a lot inside jokes.
If it is though I fucking loved that week Troy took over the intros. DEP was fuckng great.
And the Peek Freens cover he did was better than any Kanye song Ive ever heard.
To this day I still get that stuck in my head at times. Nobody knows what the fuck Im talking about when I sing it

808s and Heartbreaks was one of the worst things to ever happen to the music industry. An entire generation of untalented. skinny black dudes mumbling about their feelings to slow drum machines.

Gentlemen, this not the place to discuss nigger music or culture. I thought we all knew that by now.

Swing and a miss on this one.

Cypress Hill. Now there’s a name I haven’t heard since 1994.
By the way the chick from Die Antwoord is a totally untalented fag hag. I never understood why nerds are so fascinated with her.
When I hear “I listen to Die Antwoord” I picture an overweight computer janitor from flyover country.

Rap is shit music. It's really that simple.
1 Single_Action_Army 2017-08-03
You don't like when niggas with no comprehensive grasp of music theory just write rhymes about bitches and pay some producer to over-engineer it until it actually has basic rhythm and tonality?
1 BoardroomBimmy 2017-08-03
Careful, you're triggering the wiggers. They're scrambling to justify being white adults who listen to pop music that is geared towards suburban white girls who be all up in the cluuuub
1 UnfunnyFaggott 2017-08-03
I love following rap "beefs". "Yo jeezy got DESTROYED when he was dissed by lil' Niggy". It's literally a soap oprah of fake gangsters that appeals to white suburban teens. So fucking cringe worthy. Not to mention, even a good producer like Dr Dre's song are simply stolen compositions by talented people. California Love, for example.
