That made me curious about the idea of firing Stern, it's hard to find good numbers. It doesn't really matter, Howard Stern owns $100,000,000-$1,000,000,000 of SiriusXM stock. I don't think the type of employee who fired Opie can even fire someone who owns that much of the company. He probably has contracts that make it even more complex, but even in theory it seems difficult to fire him if he didn't want to go. I'm guessing the guys we hear referred to as bosses are below Stern in authority.
If it's 200million, the stock has been relatively stagnant since 2006, so it's probably worth no more than $230m even if he reinvested dividends.
That being said, I'm unsure how the Sirius-XM merger changed that...but just by looking at the 15 year graph, it's been growing very, very slowly. Like, you'd make more money over time by investing it in CDs at the bank.
However, Howard owns a large chunk of a viable broadcast platform, and arguably one of its largest shareholders. That's something Infinity never had or would offer him.
he got $200 million in stock in 06, but he was allowed to sell it as soon as he got it. i think he probably sold most of it since i dont think it makes sense for one person to have so much of their wealth in one stock.
Actually, that would explain why he became more politically correct, started doing shows like America's Got Talent, etc. If he has a shit load of stock in Sirius, he needs to get more people to sign up, and that's why he's going for a more mainstream audience.
