Opie planted thermite paint in his own career. He know the executives at SiriusXM weren't going to resign him: too much bad publicity, people hating on him, his show doing terribly, etc. As a result, Opie no longer had any draw or appeal, and SiriusXM doesn't want to pay a guy like that all that money. As a result, it all came down to not wanting to pay Opie a seven figure, or even a six figure, salary to suck on the radio. Opie would never willingly take a pay cut because he knew we'd decimate him about it, so he sabotaged his own career so that he could claim that he would've been re-signed if he hadn't been fired.

Anthony did the same thing 3 years ago... Sirius was not going to re-sign Anthony, so he did that whole black hooker thing. I 100% believe both Anthony and Opie intentionally got themselves fired. It's pretty convenient how close to the time their contracts were up when they both got fired. Everybody had been saying for a long time that Sirius was not going to re-sign Opie. And now this happens. Hmmm.
