Jim & Sam just needs a talented comic to fill the 3rd chair and get the old dynamic back. Sam fills Opes role better than Opie since he's easily mocked and takes it way better, not to mention he's better at moving from topic from topic. J&S have great chemistry but fall short on the laughs without someone to take the piss out of them both and draw out more humor from Jim. The best moments on the show so far have been with strong comedic guests, they just need a new permanent fixture.

This is what I've always thought. Not even a permanent 3rd mic, but throw in Vos, Normand, Kelly, etc., for the day. Last week's shows were the most comedian heavy since they started and it was their best week.

I think that Sam is generally more entertaining/sets a better mood, but his guest choices are horrendous and he'd rather talk about the news than riff on funny audio. One good thing about Opie is that he would pick good audio to play on the show back before he got lazy and started hating laughter

Sam essentially "ran" jocktober for 5 years which is, in the later years, one of the show's funniest and most successful bits. Meanwhile Ope just sat around repeating the same "I didn't hear it, I checked out." "We can't do this anymore, we've killed out" or defending Todd for having to put up with Scott Shannon. His aftershow was also solid. He's not as strong when there's emphasis on him to be a funny guy but when he just has to run the show and snark on the side he excels.

Opie at his best was the "traffic cop" that segued into bits and took on an agreeable-enough neutral voice. When he didn't force his hacky humor and just let Jim and Ant be funny, he was more than tolerable. Opie was the .165 hitter that could lay down bunts while Jim and Ant were the base-clearing power hitters. As long as Opie didn't try to over-extend his average skills (trying too hard to be funny = swinging for the fences and badly missing), I could live with having him as host.

Add a comic like Patrice, Colin, Burr, or Louis (or Bawby or Vos to make fun of), and you were fortifying a good line-up with more power.

What you have now is Sam, who is a more efficient Opie and can be effective, but the line-up lacks run-producing power. Norton doesn't hit for average like he used to (I miss angry Jimmy), but another power guy brings out the best in him. If Ant could still be that guy, you might see something truly special again.

I think Ant could still be that guy. The village show in March where he, Jim, and Sam were on stage was pretty funny, especially with Bobo there to rip on like old times.

Anthony's like a running back that can still rush for 1200 yards a season, but he has to be in the right system to make it happen. Left to his own devices with enablers and suck-ups, he's self-destructive.

Right after Ant got canned, I wanted them to get together. For some reason, I didn't get how much Opie sucked until after Anthony was fired and I relistened to the old shows. I always knew Ant was funnier than Opie, but I thought they were good as a team and it was only in retrospect that I understood how worthless Opie was,that he almost never said anything funny and on the very rare occasions he did, he'd repeat it over and over like an autist with tourette's syndrome.

When I realized that the humor of the O and A show came only from Anthony, Jim and guests like Colin and Patrice, I no longer saw any reason for a reunion show. However, if Opie wasn't such a douchebag , I wouldn't really mind them getting together again. Ant's show is pretty unlistenable these days anyway, so it wouldn't make a difference if they sucked separately or together. But since Opie IS such a shit head he doesn't deserve to have that life line thrown to him.
The only thing about Opie joining Ant's show that would be somewhat amusing, is what I've said before, and that's the fact that Anthony would be his boss and that Opie would be dependent on the guy he pretty much screwed over for his very livelihood.
