I think you are nostalgically misremembering how much the last year or two of "Angry Gay Silent Fez" sucked. He had moments of sheer brilliance (e.g. the Opie impersonation) but it mostly was Ron painfully trying to cover for the fact that his cohost was inexplicably mute.

Oh, I remember. It annoyed the fuck out of me.

But it created some amazing moments. Not always, but sometimes, especially when Ronnie would blow. It'd make you question what was real.
