He always, always acted like he didn't understand why people hated him, and then when anyone gave him anything, as a gift or just to "let me see it", he would fucking destroy it, or complain about getting it.

Opie has zero business or networking sense. It's alway hilarious to see who he fought with or demonized on air and then to see and hear those same people on Ron and Fez. They were all genuinely good and gracious people.
