The Wire is a better study of niggas in their true environment. The Sopranos was good but I've lost all respect for the mafia after hearing Opie worked for them.
The Wire. It's the more consistent in quality between the two. I haven't watched it straight through in a while, but The Sopranos seemed to have some rather shitty episodes in the middle seasons I remember. Seemed the tended to play up the comedic element a bit too much.
I also found the total character development across the board better in The Wire.
This isn't to say that The Wire was perfect. It had some just ok episodes, and it certainly ended when it should have.
In general,
I go -
Deadwood - The Wire - Boardwalk Empire - The Sopranos in terms of enjoyment.
I consider them to be equal. Both are great overall but have some lulls and weaker seasons. Both have their funny moments. I would say the Sopranos is more violent and they constantly make fun of colored people and use them like disposable pawns. They say moulignon all of the time and kill Vito because he is a fag. Now that I think of it, the Sopranos is much more in line with my beliefs and values so I will give them the slight nod.
Wire was great but preach-y and message-y, so it had an afterschool special feel to it sometimes. And it's too often referenced as if it is a Biblical document by white liberals who've never had a black friend.
Sopranos would have been better without all of the Dr. Melfi scenes. Those scenes greatly cheapened the show. Those scenes seemed dumb even back then, especially since Analyze This came out at the same time. A mobster sees a shrink. Can you believe it? The possibilities are endless with such an Ivy League Jewish writer's 1990s-esque cheesy premise!!!! Those Melfi scenes are a drag now when you rewatch the show. Just tell the story through his actions with the mob and his family. No need to explain the story through Melfi.
sopranos , even tho I just discovered the series. fucking thought that shit was still going on, come to find out the main guy has been dead for sometime.

Sopranos. The Wire gets jerked off too much by nigger loving white people. Sopranos is just a great fucking show.
