You'd be surprised how many people don't understand how weight classes work. Every time I watch a fight with my mom I have explain that most of the fighters are 15-20 heavier than the actual weight class the belong to.

I think strict weight classes are a problem though. It seems better to gauge what a fighters "fight ready" weight is and then put them into a weight class with other similar fighters. You monitor the fighter's weight regularly to make sure they aren't trying to cheat the system and bulk up etc.
