They aren't real. Just compare to Jimmy's followers for example and it's easy to see it's people interacting with him for the most part. The tone and language of Opie's usually sounds scripted especially when he gets as few messages as he does. The only person that's being fooled by it is Opie.
They're real people, absolute retards (spastics for our cheeky git pals overseas), but real - they just echo the cadence and word choice that they know Opie will respond to. Look how many use terms like 'Chemistree' etc etc. Using twitter to ballwash is a weird hobby, but it is a thing.
They all have real and fake followers but Opie's "Wow!!! What a show! I'd be willing to lose my job to listen you, Sherrod and Vic!!" is a lot different then Jimmy's "Did the AIDS tranny tug your pecka, Jimmy?" replies. Opie is a phony and everybody knows it. Sure, there's a few that love the anti-social, awkward Opie humor but it's obvious he has a bot re-tweeting him for the most part.
