Where we at with Mulholland Drive?

2  2017-05-22 by BabyDinosaurHead

I just watched it and liked it quite a bit. I think I mostly understand it, what's everyone's takes on it? Anyone have a particular interpretation?

I think the first half was not just a dream. I think there was something more complex going on.

BDH - isn't that movie like 15 years old? Hell, Ant wouldn't even fuck it.

I've seen it and I remember absolutely nothing. Just like every other David Lynch film other than the Elephant Man. Twin Peaks was good though.

Also, David Lynch has a singing career despite having no musical talent and just a generally unpleasant voice all around. I highly recommend checking it out.

That movie sucked cock.

Tsss mulholland drive? why didnt he just ride his bike er sumthin

My interpretation was that (((Italians))) who have insanely high standards when it comes to Espresso run Hollywood and that they use cowboys as shock troops to make the talent comply with their demands. Also, there is no band and that chick that hangs out behind the Arbie's -- or whatever it is -- still terrifies me in my sleep.

I'm not into lesbian porn but that one scene was pretty fucking hot for an R rated movie.

Who's not into lesbian porn?

Fagalas and dykes.

I was into cinema in a big way when Mulholland Drive came out so I heard a lot of people's Mulholland Drive theories even though the number of people who I actually asked was exactly zero.

Here's the truth about that piece of shit movie.

David Lynch was trying to make another Twin Peaks style show, so made a TV pilot called Mulholland Drive. Nobody liked it, nobody picked it up, so he was stuck with 60 minutes of material he couldn't release. The French got wind of this, and gave him money to extend it into a feature length movie. So with French money he added some lesbian sex and some other weird shit that they like. He kept the weird scenes setting up recurring characters for the series because people would probably think that was "art" or something.

So there's my Mulholland Drive theory. It was a failed TV pilot with a tacked on ending paid for by the French, and enjoyed by stupid people. Hope I wasn't too harsh.

Thanks for adding to the terrible Mulholland Drive theories nobody asked for.

Nah.

It really astound me that this shit got 8.0 on imdb and even a strong positive review by Roger Ebart. The first half was captivating but the weirdness and unexplained crap posturing as 'art' just made the movie unsatisfying.

everything takes place through the lens of naomi watts' fractured mind, so time is irrelevant and not everything is literal.

basically she has split personality, the hot spanish chick is her alter ego. the magician guy is her mk ultra-style handler/pimp. the cowboy, the midget mogul, the mob, and the magician are representative of the forces running hollywood.

she's the archetypical midwestern homecoming queen that moves to hollywood and gets chewed up by the beast. the plot is simple: burnt-out actress turns whore then commits suicide. but she sold her soul for that one big part, so she is stuck in this loop for eternity.

Been a while since I've seen it, but from what I remember, it's pretty much a dream/nightmare of a wannabe actress/stalker with borderline personality disorder, who suffers such a break from reality that she ends up going insane and killing herself.

I mostly remember jerking off to the lesbian scenes and Naomi Watts crying and fingering herself, however.

I like retarded sax solos

That's Lost Highway, sir.

Oh yeah... I knew that...

None of it is a dream. Half of it is the exciting Hollywood shit the blonde girl wishes had happened, and half of it is the boring and awful L.A. shit that really did happen.

It's the last great movie that will ever be made. Film is deader than radio.

Of course it's a dream.

Every atleast 10 really great films are released. There's plenty of good cinema these days.

I think you should live stream your dangling feet A La Steve C. Lets hope the Pendulum swings your way

Sir, that's not particularly kind.

Brilliant. Next, check out Inland Empire.

I consider it a sleeping pill in movie form

Isn't the whole twist of it is that real Naomi Watts character is the rejected lover (Diana Selwyn?) in the last part of the movie and not 'Betty' from the start. The Betty story line is a fantasy she came up with where she is loved and needed by the brunette chick and is set up to be a successful actress.

Anyway I heard this was the most realistic David Lynch movie ao I'm not going to watch his other films because the surreal aspect and the unexplained 'Lynchian' shit is just too much for me.

No fan of Lynch, but I gotta say that episode one of twin peaks is probably the best episode of television ever made. Just don't watch another episode
