Attell on paper is one of my favorite comics of all time: acerbic, alcoholic, and generally doesn't really give a fuck when speaking (Stanhope's one of my actual favorites, for instance).

He's been doing stand-up for 30 years and the longest time he took off was a few months (he once tried to break BB King's record of something like 340 days on the road but "only' got to 300). Listen to any of his stand-up--especially the bootlegs--and its the best mix of well-crafted material and off the cuff brilliance of any comedian. And his sike professionally-released special "Me Doing Standup" is an hour of topics no one besides Norm could make funny. What's a better indication of comedic prowess than that? He says he has over ten hours of material and improvises through a different rotation of them every night. He's without a doubt one of the best--if not the best--stand up comedians, and no reasonable or informed person would disagree. Chalking Norm up as a "good podcast guest" is like calling Hitler a "jerk."

That said...your mechanic isnt talking for 3 hours a day about his political beliefs. If he is....and he's making more of a living as a podcaster/radio jock talking about his politics and social beliefs...I wouldnt judge you from calling into his show/getting on his subreddit and letting him know how you feel.

Big difference between a mechanic and a radio host/podcaster. If Carlos Mencia and Amy Schumer were hilarious comedians...I'd still listen to them and laugh and laugh. I wouldnt defend who they were to the general public because I found them funny when onstage.

Joey Diaz is a stand up on a regular basis....Joey Diaz puts out specials, has a podcast, and does radio on a regular basis. I think Joey Diaz is as funny as anybody Ive ever heard in my life....I'd laugh just hearing him riff off of a phone book. That said, I didnt say that Joey Diaz was the best living stand up (for a variety of reasons). He IS a stand up....he IS the funniest man on the planet...he ISNT the best stand up comedian.

Attell and Norm are two of the funniest guys in the world (and are higher on the "funniest living stand up comedians" list than Diaz is), but I'll laugh more at a typical Burr show than anybody else. Different strokes.
