Here's a big problem I have w Sam and Opie both. One of the mak reasons they are so moronic and boring is because they've never lived a life so they're just shallow. Ant had his bands, as shitty as they were, and worked a real job for a while. Jimmy had comedy and touring so he's at least been around a little bit. Sam and Opie have never done anything so they have no experience of life to talk about. It's just shitty pop culture is as deep as they go. They're just worthless empty sacks of shit.

Sam as a lead mic is a travesty, for his feeble voice alone. Mix in his infantile worldview and absence of wit, and you have an utterly unqualified broadcaster. I wonder if Jim believes the grass is, in fact, greener on the other side; sure, it's nice having Greggshells out of the picture, but it has to be pure drudgery trying to produce good radio with Sam.

OK, I concede. On hard work, hours put in, tenacity and drive Sam definitely has proven himself strong. He should definitely have been given more opportunities at Sirius. Denying him that is agreeing to the kind of world where hard work isn't rewarded. We have to acknowledge that in any Sam-bashing post.

BUT

There still has to be a filter for on-air personalities. You still have to acknowledge Sam's awful radio voice. Arguably one of the worst I've heard. Sure, he can't help it but it is like nails to a chalkboard every time he speaks. It is hard to listen to. And it's a comedy show. Sam seems like he has a decent sense of humour on him but he doesn't make me laugh at all. Sure, he interracts well with Jim but by himself he offers nothing. Add to this he's not at all an interesting guy. He's a manchild who eats chicken fingers and watches rasslin whilst his wife raises a child Sam seems to want nothing to do with. He talks with authority and arrogance on subjects he has little clue about and he constantly drones on about topics nobody has interest in such as rasslin, Gronk or hip hop. He's stripped the show entirely of the loose, anything goes feel when O&A would bring in comics and just fuck about for hours on end. He's turned the show into a strict formula of current affairs chat, break, intern talk, break, guest, finish. Great guests are being booked for the last half hour only so Sam can get a few hours of nonsense out first. And then we have the guests themselves. Sam has no interest in reviving the old O&A scene. Instead he's turned himself and Jim into uninformed interviewers of pornstars, rasslers, ufc fighters and dull celebrities - all of whom have no link to the old O&A universe. Sure, some of these are Jim picks but Sam seems intent on not having comedians appear. I think it's down to his insecurities of not being funny and not being able to chime in. He references this a lot. I get that he's trying to lay a marker himself and trying to distance himself from other shows to stand out. But like it or not, Sam's audience is largely O&A fans who like Jim and put up with Sam. His rasslin fanbase is way too small for a morning show on Sirius so he has no way of forming an entirely new audience based on those guys.

For me, Sam has bitten off way more than he can chew. I like him - as a producer. He gave us jocktober and countless other great bits. But he's clearly not on-air talent no matter how hard he worked or how much he deserves it. I could practice at basketball for the next ten years harder than anybody but it doesn't entitle me to start for the Celtics.
