Yeah I forgot about VS. She has that advertisers eye when it comes to aesthetics. I appreciate that. Kubrick and Ridley started that way too. Her films are very feminine but in a more traditional way which is also refreshing.
Totally. Even the Bling Ring, which I didn't want to like, was really good. She's a feminist truly, by just making movies about women as a woman, including the dark side of femininity and womanhood. And she's really good at it. Marie Antoinette, especially, shows her advertising/pop culture/zeitgeisty eye, as you pointed out, plus she was able to use that to service an amazing story.
This conversation reminds me of the time those MTV people came in to the O&A show and Quinn was there and Anthony said something like 'There's equity in being happy at your job [despite bad pay]' and Quinn was joking that most people think Ant is just a Nazi nut and then he says soft stuff like that.
Who'd think that in this den for racist, angry ghouls you'd find two people discussing appreciatively the subtle feminism and pop aesthetics of Sofia Coppola. :)
Yeah, I don't get why they didn't just shoot around Winona Ryder's scenes for a few weeks until she got better. FFC was too quick to go "Eh, I'll just cast my shitty daughter."
I just watched this again. She doesn't even tumble the whole floor, let alone corner-to-corner. My kid did longer tumbles when she was 8 than snaggletooth failed actor and mediocre director did in her late teens.
Hey she became a director at like 11 because she has the Coppola name.
The movie was about an old man on a business trip in Japan and he wanted to fuck Scarlet Johanssen.

She's Italian so she probably has hairy armpits and a gigantic tangled, matted and smelly bush.

Gee, I thought after her star turn interpretation of Marie Antoinette, she was the next big Hollywood star director. What happened with that, hm?
