Or he's saying the guy is at an inpatient treatment center. And knowing you guys, it's probably an inpatient rehab, haha! Like for a crippling heroin addiction, lol! You guys are characters! To quote the Opester, "we have some funny fawkin listeners, man!"
The caller was correct. Sadly Sam and Jim care about wrestling fans clicking on their videos on youtube more than the people who listen to them every single day
Like who, exactly? The 5,000 daily listeners they have? I would bet any amountof money that their youtube listens in the first week greatly exceed their live listens, and they're only getting like 5-20k listeners in a week on youtube. I would be shocked if they have more than 5k daily, live listeners, and even then, probably like 10% listen for more than an hour. If Sirius hadn't weaseled their way into those deals with car companies - ie if we only count people who actively sought out and paid to subscribe to Sirius - they'd probably be dead already. If stern hadn't signed early and tricked all those rubes into lifetime subs, it'd be dead already. Their business model is basically "instead of spending the same amount of money on Netflix, you should buy an expensive radio first and then buy a subscription for audio content that isn't on demand, can't be saved for later and is full of commercials." It's unbelievable they've lasted this long
At least the old wrestlers were entertaining & interesting, who didn't love Snuka & the Sheik .
There is nothing interesting coming out of the mouths of these dullards . Most of them will not spill any dirt or say anything controversial. Why get the same bullshit take out of them they give every interview?
Sam gets all Opie quoting the numbas for the wrestling shit.
Like the caller said the people viewing that are fans chasing their fandom. Not new fans of the show.
ex wrestlers from the era they could get away with drugging and drinking MIGHT have a good apperence with stories to tell. Unlikely but might. Modern ones "i'm away alot" is all they have
The old guys are fascinating. Piper, Flair, Arn Anderson, all the territory guys have crazy stories.
Your WWF era dudes have drug stories, but those aren't always entertaining.
Your modern WWE guys have a PG image to mantain, so it's "Make-A-Wish" this (which is admirable but boring), and "video games" that (which is just fucking boring).
Some Mexican wrestlers might have interesting stories. Probably not the provenance you get with the older guys, but I know that Mistico once threatened to stab Alberto Del Rio, which is nice.
These awful interviews are not generating a new subscribers or revenue to SiriusXM but they are generating revenue for Jim and Sam via YouTube and satisfying their other employers (WWE, UFC). SiriusXM could stop Jim and Sam from giving away content but they don't care enough.
Sam bragging about how great the show is proves that he's far more delusional and mentally ill than anyone thought.
The only memorable wrestling guest they've had on was xpac years ago when he was telling all his meth/drug stories and I don't mind Stone cold dropping by occasionally but the rest are boring as fuck.
People are either entertaining interviews or they're not regardless of their careers. They'd have just as much luck picking interesting people randomly off the street as they have with athletes, actors, porn stars, etc.
"Dude I totally get if you don't like that. Wrestling isn't for everyone. I don't watch it and that's why I ask the "hard hitting" questions. But dude, it's not everyday..." (just guessing)
It was this verbatim, plus a literal "check out the numbers". Sam pointed out how the generic WWF girl interview had over 100,000 hits. And then mentioned how a Colin Quinn appearance doesn't get close to that. "We love Colin, but come on..."
For the first time ever, Sam had a real "Fuck you caller, this is hot fire" swagger in his voice, and it was pretty shitty.
Caller: Well the wrestling clip tht Sam mentioned, that has 100,000 views or whatever - that's just a rabid fanbase chasing whatever is out there in release. If this fanbase, the O&A...whatever is left of it... If Colin Quinn goes on a video, you better believe this fanbase is gonna chase it and watch that video...
Sam: Okay then! Look on the Youtube channel. Look at the Colin Quinn hits. And look at the AJ Lee hits. I love having Colin on, but the point is, that the Colin Quinn fans...
Caller: ...you don't understand what I'm saying.
Sam: ...are here. They're not going because we're gonna have Colin back on. The point is to have new people on that are gonna attract new people to the channel, so that then the audience widens not just goes okay, we have this one... I mean, you talk about niche audiences, we're bringing in various different niches not just going towards one niche that's been here, programming for you guys and other fanbases so that everybody comes together to build a much bigger audience.
As a huge colin quinn fan and ex O&A fan, no they are not. I wanted to like the show but I literally never listen anymore. They almost never have guests of that caliber on the show.
I get if he wants YouTube ad revenue. But they are not going to build a fanbase bed of that woman. Wrestling fans probably don't even remember the name of the show. It doesn't matter if it's Jim & Sam or Wild Billy's Morning Zoo on WFGT in Buttfuck Mississippi. They just came for the wrestlers. A comic as a regular builds an audience.
The logic makes sense. If WWE fan listens to anything WWE guy is on, they may like what they hear. The problem is that they are not doing anything to make that person want to come back and listen. They do WWE/UFC interview and get the YouTube hits. Then, that same WWE/UFC "star" goes on another Sirius show or some shitty FM Morning show in Indiana. That shitty show uploads the interview and those fans then listen to that clip. I agree they need to get every ear they can. They just need to figure out a way to entertain those new people to keep listening.
Is he fucking serious? People are watching that one video because they're fans of that wrestler. That doesn't mean fans of the show who subscribe and listen every day are more interested in that.
Silly me, I thought the title was from either Sam or Jim showing some awareness. But apparently they just doubled down on it because of the "numbers"? Fucking idiots.
I like MMA and wrestling and I can't stand most of these interviews. There are maybe 3 or 4 MMA guys worth hearing. And any wrestler who started after the 90s has to maintain a squeaky clean image.
UFC is fucking boring. Wrestling was only interesting because Ant and friends were criticizing the quality of it and sam's interest in it. Porn Stars were interesting on terrestrial radio when they were trying to test the boundaries of the FCC
Listening to wrestlers/UFC fighters/porn stars is only entertaining if the person is an asshole or if they are crazy. None of the people they have in are like this they are usually timid and just want to do an interview, except maybe that Mary Jane chick but she is annoying as fuck still. I couldn't give less of a fuck about wrestling, how do people even like that shit? At least UFC is actual fighting.
This is the Letterman v. Leno of shit shows. Jim and Sam are Letterman, just moved to CBS, big hopes. But after 7 months they are so shitty Opie is starting to look good by comparison.
In the end I'm afraid we're doomed to have a faggot aussie skateboarder to listen too.
Sam wants to do a Wrestling show or work for the network full time. Same thing with Jim for the UFC, with his stand-up mixed in. They're incompatible for their current format. Their duo has no viable future. Don't know why anyone would invest time or interest in listening when the writing is so clearly on the wall. Highly doubtful in ten years we'll be celebrating a decade of J&S broadcasting magic.
No, Jim knows his ufc knowledge sucks. He plays the role of idiot who likes ufc for another reason than seeing sport (homo shit, same reason male fitness magazines are on the shelves)'
which is so weird. Because this show seems like the best of both. Doing full time for WWF or whatever has to get old. The same fucking thing. and you know a channel that wishes it had basic cable numbers doesn't pay their hosts shit.
The thing that pisses me off is that fans like us helped get them this gig, and now our opinions mean dick. The fact the caller was so succinct and even tempered with his explanation really threw them off. It even got them to slip up and expose the true motivation why these guests come on so much: they're padding the numbers with MMA and wrestling fanboys.
The Opie and Anthony Show doesn't exist anymore. You're not going to get what you want here. It is a different show with different strengths and different weaknesses. Because it is a different show. Either way, here is a solution to your moral conundrum: Don't listen to the show. If you listen to the show enough to screech autistically on the internet about how your precious radio show doesn't perform to your every whim then you'd know that it usually announces the guests beforehand. That is your cue to make a decision whether or not to listen to it. It's ok to say 'No, I don't think I'll listen to the Jim and Sam Show today.' No one is going to look down on your status as a super important Tier 1 listener.
By the way if you want to know a reason why they have WWE and UFC participants on their radio program, take a look at the youtube views on the show's official youtube channel. You might notice that the two recent videos featuring the guests that you so violently loathe have the most views since Elijah Wood came in super late to promote his Netflix movie (which was awesome, btw.) Not even Anthony Cumia's most recent call in a month before that has more views than the AJ Mendez Brooks video.
That up there is a copy pasted comment I made from another thread like this.
The excuse about bringing in listeners from a wider audience is fucking stupid because it's always the same kind of guests. If they had people coming in from all different areas, not just porn stars, MMA fighters, or wrestlers coming in nobody would be complaining. Sam "Clown Hair" Roberts doesn't get that. He just wants to meet some shitty steroid abusing meatheads because he's a fucking child; and Jimmy is a gay man in denial who thinks porn is something other than a bunch of whores.
Are Sam and Jimmy aware that all internet numbers are essentially made up? For one thing, no one but the company physically hosting your website knows how much traffic it's getting. Everything else is a "report" and "reports" are easily made up.
Also, you can buy as many followers, likes and views as you want. They call them bot farms and I don't need to tell reddit users what they do. If you want the wrestlers to show up as having more views, you can easily make that happen by spending a few bucks.
No decision should ever be based on "internet numbers" unless you have a direct connection to the hosting server, and are privy to the raw, unedited numbers.
Never, ever trust YouTube, Twitter or Facebook metrics. Those sites have been robbing people blind for years.
The caller wasn't saying they shouldn't grow the show to new audiences. He simply said the frequency of wrestlers and UFC fighter guests far outweighs any other audience. It seems they're only interested in growing the show to faggy wrestling fans and UFC retards. They hardly ever have the old-style cellar crowd comics on. Anth had Kurt Metzger on today and his show was hilarious (for once) - do better you pair of mutants!
If it was up to Sam Roberts wrestlers would come in and gang bang him live on air for 3 hours every morning. Norton sounds like Opie when he said he was trying to take the show in a new direction. What's wrong with being a fucking comedy show? Is there really no market left for comedy? I turn on Jim Norton to laugh. I don't want to hear boring meathead wrestlers, ditzy pornstars, actors and musicians talk about overcoming fucking depression or plug whatever dog shit they put their name on. Every morning I fantasize about driving off a bridge on my way to work 12 hours, then I go home still in debt and drink myself to a blackout. I don't want to be pandered to by James Norton the 11 year old addict and the rich and famous elite about their made up addictions at 7am. I want to fucking laugh. You're all victims, we get it. I don't give a fuck. There's no reason the antithesis of funny should have Artie Lange, Robert Kelly, Mark Normand and Gilbert Gottfried all on one show and the actually funny comedian Jim Norton should be talking in his serious voice about depression with Linda who gives a fuck UFC cunt and the very Opie esq unfunny man boy that is Sam Roberts. I'd say Jim should have went solo, but I'm starting to think he is a lost cause. 🤗😜🤗😜🤗😜🤗😜✊🏿
I don't mind listening to wrestling folks on radio shows/podcasts, just can't stand listening to Sam talk to them. For as long as he's been a fan he's a know-nothing rube and a mark.
I do like UFC, but there isn't much to be said about it these days, especially with the big uptick in MMA related podcasts over the last 3-4 years.
That being said, both need to be used very sparingly, like they used to do on the old show.

It did, and then he became more staunch in his views.
He doesn't get that diluting the brand doesn't grow the brand so much as betray the base and mess with the formula for success they cultivated.
They need to focus on fucking FUNNY as Patrice would say. Jim Norton is aging into an old PC queen, and the show is suffering for it.

The best modern stories are typically Japan and Mexico, but for different reasons.
Mexico is wild, crazy, and dangerous, while in Japan, a big name wrestler is held in pretty high reverence.
Then you have the third world country tours - like Brazil and Puerto Rico. Those stories are sometimes hard to believe.

It even got them to slip up and expose the true motivation why these guests come on so much: they're padding the numbers with MMA and wrestling fanboys.

O&A did the same thing.
Caller would make a complaint and then get yelled at Anthony for 5 minutes with the "GO! SCREW!"
n/a ChippusMaximus 2017-04-11
I never understood what "go screw" meant.

It means go screw together an ipad he can buy for his next victim with your subscription money

So per usual, it's the world that sucks massive cock because of UFC and wrastaaaling fanboys (also known as Incloset homos or the JRE)

Hasn't it occurred to anyone that they probably enjoy pissing this sub off?

I don't mind listening to wrestling folks on radio shows/podcasts, just can't stand listening to Sam talk to them. For as long as he's been a fan he's a know-nothing rube and a mark.
I do like UFC, but there isn't much to be said about it these days, especially with the big uptick in MMA related podcasts over the last 3-4 years.
That being said, both need to be used very sparingly, like they used to do on the old show.

Sam being a bossy cunt. You're an intern. Really is Opie V2.

Caller also said "Wrestling and UFC is for faggots" it was funny.

Well maybe Mr. Flair should meet a certain wrestler named CAPTAIN MANNERS.

So, you are puling every number and "fact" you've used here out of your ass and really haven't a clue about any of this? Just checking.
