Im from the city that that movie is based on and family is from.
Her and Christian Bale deserved those oscars, so spot on. Mark Wahlburg sucks and most movies about the state of Mass overdo it, but the supporting cast in that movie is so fucking great.
Whats scary is my age grew up with women from that mom's generation as grandmothers, and they are great grandmothers now. Imagine that, midwesterners
Btw here is the real life documentary that is featured in the fighter, I cam say this un-biasedly but its is probably the one of the best documentaries HBO has ever produced. Sooo 90's and soooo townie trash that cant be duplicated by actors. High On Crack Street: The Lost Lives Of Lowell https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oKIP6qlTalI
Good call. Love that documentary. And Lowell is way better off now than it was in the 90's in many respects. Still some rough areas, but the downtown is way busier and safer than it was even 10 years ago. I have a few Cambodian friends who live there, and its a fun town to visit. Opiates have replaced crack as the major street drug, in Lowell and New England generally, but it's not as out in the open as the crack days.
Yes, Umass has taken over this city, buying up whatever property they can and making it "safer." But its very weird, u can tell they want to shield the young minds from the locals, but in many ways its alot worse around here now than it was in the 90s. But for the most part you are correct.
And yeah, we have the biggest population of Cambodians in the country and Cambodoan street gangs are fucking scary. And if you want to take a trip down memory lane and are missing 90's Lowell, take a ride thru Lawrence one of these days. Its like Lowell minus the white people.
Long live Lowell ! I was in college outside Boston in the 90's. I love some of those towns around MA. I had some great time around there. I miss those days. Also when I first heard O&A.
Nah: Coke or painkillers yes. But for that youd have to go to Lawrence. Lawrence is the worst city in Massachusetts and perhaps the country.. if u can survive living in Lawrence u can make it anywhere.
It's not while I've gotten fent before my main dealer usually has decent dope for cheap. Fent is clear and usually has minimal rush but a super nod. I get shit that had an insane rush but not as good nod
Yea. I know we're not supposed to ever actually like anything on this sub, but at least they had the right idea with RedEye. Bring on a panel to crack jokes and talk shit about the news.
It all really did depend on who was the guests on any given night. Some episodes sucked and some episodes were pretty good.
I'd like to think that a high level executive at Fox News hasn't tuned into that shit show for years until last week when Joe was on and he made a decision based on his performance.

I did enjoy how Matarese barely said anything when questioned as if everybody was going to cling to every word that came out of his mouth. He thinks he is fucking Don Corleone.
That kind of sucks, but the show turned to shit when Shillue took over. He was a mistake. But it could still be good with a good group of guests.
But the first years of the show were phenomenal. If you only know the show from Tom's shows or only saw Greg as his "dad who wants to be cool" The Five years that sounds crazy since both suck now. But it was so nice to finally have a conservative show on that wasn't embarrassing when it tried to be funny, or having 78 year old Lou Dobbs hosting.
It was fantastic in it's early years. It was legitimately edgy (particularly for the network), and also complete nonsense. Before Greg turned full dad, I never missed an episode. It's how I learned about Jimmy and then O&A. I mourned this show when Bill was fired though. I'm glad Andy isn't without a job.
I really think it was because bill started being a cohost on Race Wars in his spare time. There are some pretty good Bill eps, including the Gavin one where some black chick throws a phone at him.
Same. Plus when Gavin was first brought on the show there was a steady year or so of him being entertaining - before he went off the rails and turned into a try-hard born again loon.
I mourned this show when Bill was fired though.
It was all downhill from there. Bill's writing as well as his instinct to interject with humor when things got too politically serious were strong points that made Red Eye so enjoyable.
That was kinda the point of the show in it's early years. An edgy, comedy news show that would air at 3AM because there is no way they could have aired it in any other time. The first few years were amazing, but it's a show that slowly devolved over time. If you look at the show circa 2007 it was a much meaner and edgier take on the news. But for the past few years, even when Gutfeld was still the host, the show became the Jim & Sam type of "cutisey, goofy" comedy.
The show jumped the shark when Andrew Breitbart died. Greg was like the geeky kid trying to impress the cool kid so he'd let him hang out with him. After Andrew died he softens up, ditches Bill, and decides to work to get out of 3am.
thats probably pretty accurate. Andrew was really the force keeping Red Eye weird, he wouldn't have let The Five happen (what was originally supposed to happen was that Red Eye would be making afternoon episodes, pinch and all)
I think another part of it was it was one of the few shows that had d-list comics of all types on.
and all sorts of weirdos and freaks.
2007-2011 were like the last pre-podcast years, so more often than not comedians had to appear on either that show or the radio to do spots.
2012 was just like a huge turning point culture wise, so the rise of everyone having twitter accounts and podcasts really destroyed a sort of show like this, by 2013 it was mainly just the same rotation, and less and less new guests who clicked with the show until we have the bottom of the barrel guests we have now
That third-shift shitshow stopped being relevant when Freddy Krueger took over for Gutfeld, and then further when the perfect in every single way Joann Nosuchinsky left.
I thought at first this can't be, this show is discussed so much amongst celebrities I follow. Than I realized all the celebrities on my twitter are like d list and this is the only vehicle of entertainment that was having them on.
I remember when they first put on Red Eye, they had another show on the weekends called The Half Hour News Hour (which was an abject abortion). I saw that first and was scared off Red Eye for a little bit.
However, I loved the show and watched it religiously from about 2007-2012. Rachel Marsden was a fucking nut who didn't ever fit in, so when they shitcanned her early on it really took off. Greg would get guests like Kerry King and Gibby Haynes, let people write crude introductions for that night's guests on his blog (which he would read if they were good), and managed to offend an entire country's military (I hate hated Doug Benson since this incident). They let Jimmy host a couple of times in 2010. It was a wild show, I could see why Fox wanted it hidden at 3 am.
2013 and on I watched sporadically at best. When it became obvious Greg was moving up the ladder and was doing The Five, Red Eye became his little version of The Five but still had Bill and Andy to steer the ship. Then Joanne took over for Bill in 2014, and it went through a litany of mostly fucking garbage guest hosts until a year later Tom took over for Greg, and it was an entirely different show.
I will watch the last episode to put a nice bookend on what was a great for show me for about 4 years, but it will be my first one in a while.
thats probably pretty accurate. Andrew was really the force keeping Red Eye weird, he wouldn't have let The Five happen (what was originally supposed to happen was that Red Eye would be making afternoon episodes, pinch and all)

Big blow for those who seemed to think being on a news channel at 3am was a good thing

I think Ant thought it was on at 3pm and not 3am the way he went on about it.
