I'm acting like the OP said something mind numbingly stupid, which you did. Cold and warm climates have nothing to do with how "complex thinking" evolves. We only have one example of "complex thinking" evolving and it began in the desert areas, places that were hot during the day and extremely cold at night.

The most common adaptation to cold in nearly all animals is higher body fat and fur\feathers. Not intelligence. Evolution doesn't happen at the level of the organism either, but at the level of the gene. Read The Selfish Gene, or just any book idiot.

Saying evolution happens at the level of the gene is supposed to prove what point, exactly? I've read just about every Dawkins book, but that statement does not refute anything said by the OP(not that I agree with him either.) Genes code for the phenotype that is expressed in the individual organism; certain traits(and therefore genes) are selected for and accumulate in the gene pool therefore shaping it over time. Considering intelligence is highly heritable, and presumably controlled by genes, it is certainly feasible(not saying it's true) that intelligence would be selected for in certain environments as opposed to others.
