If I had a kid with my girlfriend, the kid would be killed by her dog inside of a year. No question.
I've had dogs my whole life and I understand them. Even the "bad" ones. I've had a little success getting her dog to make improvements, but on a very deep level, he is insecure and anxious.
He has bitten several people, and will always have that self preservation menality. He feels threatened easily, and is prone to defensive aggression.
I'd never give my dog away either. But I've spent the time to teach him how to be a cool dog. My girlfriend doesn't know how to do that with a dog, so she ruined a good puppy. Maybe Bill's dog was too feral from the start, and maybe he wasn't a strong enough owner to rehab the dog on his own.
I don't agree with the move, but I think it's deeper than just saying he's a cold SOB.
Normal people wouldn't take the responsibility of adopting a pet to take care of only to give it away when they have a child less than 2 years later.. most normal people prioritize and figure this shit out before fucking up an animal's life by giving it a nice home only to send it back off to the cages for no reason other than you're having a kid..
