He wasn't though, for whatever reason. He was putting his hand to his face exactly as if there was a cigarette there. When I saw him live recently he was more or less chainsmoking the entire time.
I think it's a little column A and a little of column B. It's not like Comedy Central wouldn't have left the offer on the table until he sorted himself out if he wanted to continue doing the show.
Remember, Mind of Mencia was right there to seamlessly take his place. People forgot about Chapelle when Mencia showed up with his biting social commentary viewed through the Hispanic lens.
Have you ever seen the episode of Inside the Actor's Studio with Chappelle? I'm not sure if it was necessarily a nervous breakdown as much as it was "this ain't fun anymore".
He started thinking the white people around him was laughing "for the wrong reasons", laughing at him and not with him, but in actual reality there is nothing in the world that liberal white people love more than a funny, inteligent black men.
Well he was in whiteface makeup and wearing a stupid 70's suit at the time. It's kind of understandable for him to think that what he was doing was hacky and the laughter was different than the type you garner using your wit and charisma.
Sure, i just don't believe him running away from his contract was an admirable thing, he had the power not to do that specific sketch if he thought it was racist or whatever.
I know he doesn't care. He does have a second special/paycheck to come though I think. Although I don't think there's ever been a successful SJW campaign against Netflix. Millennials seem to have a blind spot where Netflix is concerned.
I really do applaud Netflix for sticking with their people - there was even backlash (albeit much smaller) against The Trailer Park Boys when Bubbles had a domestic violence run-in which I believe was eventually dismissed.
That's right! The only other one I could think was I think they took The Cosby Show off Netflix. Even Barbarians like us can't get too upset at SJW's for that!
No, i think it's pretty retarded. How is pulling Cosby Show off Netflix going to help anything? The only effect is that some people who wanted to watch Cosby Show will get pissed off.
He gave it up because he ran out of good ideas and panicked. The first 2 seasons were a culmination of a decade of creativity. Season 3 was turning out so bad he panicked.
Have you seen the lost episodes? He ain't holier than though. It was a disaster.
Eh, I'd say a reason he gave up his show was that black activists and academics started getting in his head about how he was making whites laugh for the wrong reason.
I saw him in San Francisco as he first started doing stand-up shortly after leaving Comedy Central. He stated that he was being told by CC to steer away from the racial comedy and towards more "scatological" comedy. "That was a new word for me." He also, complained about how they just plugged in a show in roughly the same format with just a different person. He said he left because he didn't want to do someone else's idea. Then Questlove who was sitting near the back shouted out, "It's your show Dave!"
Trans, Caitlyn, Women, Gays.... you name it. All in about the first 20 mins. Some in a cucked (or billburred) way. Didn't go all in , but not subtle either.
Pedoliberal probably is a little much, a little inaccurate...but i LIKE it. It fits. They've just gotten so annoying since they lost, so much more wounded and butthurt acting. I used to be a moderate lib, voted Obama in 08, but i don't know WHAT i am any more. Strange times..
The opening music over the animated intro is a song called 'Worst Band in the World' by 10cc, it's an obscure song from like 1972. I thought it was weird it wasn't credit in any way in the end credits. But maybe they already bought it and didn't have to or something
The part right after Morgan Freeman's voiceover stops is J Dilla though. After listening to that 10cc song, the only thing lifted is the (super slowed down) guitar bit. J Dilla is much more fast paced.
from 15 seconds to the end on that youtube link, is ALL the 10cc song except for the beat he lays it under it I guess. I don't know if that's his beat or just the beat of the song chopped and screwed. But all the music you hear and voices is all tthe 10cc song.
Ahh you are correct, I kinda brushed through the song since I'm at work, and I didn't think the vocals were the same at all. But yeah, Dilla just made it faster and added a few layers, but it's spot on.
My Grand Dad used to sit around the camp fire telling all kinds of stories from his travels as a younger man. We could never really tell which stories were true or made up. One thing is for certain though, Grand Dad always had some J Dilla tunes playing on his on radio when he reminisced.
Yeah go to the site www.netflix.com and get the service. There's probably even a free trial. Seriously it's immediate and a lot easier to find and unless your time is worth nothing, a better use of time.
I don't understand why so many people seem to think the Texas one was notably better. I thought the first one was notably better. It just seemed ore focused and not as dated. Thought the 2nd one was a little boring really, but both are good.
I kinda miss him looking scrawnier and having a scrawnier, higher voice for when he does his goofy voices haha. But inexplicably becoming a body builder and smoking 800 million packs of cigarettes will do that I guess
They're not as good as Killing Them Softly or For What It's Worth, but those are 2 of the all time greats. Still very goddamn funny though, very pleased.
As far as stand up in general goes its the best special ive seen in years. Not as good as those but compared to burr its really good. Chappelle doesnt have some dumb cunt wife that made him unfunny

THATS RIGHT YOU FUCKIN' MOOLIE, PAY FOR MY CANDY!
n/a klarkbar 2017-03-21
No but he does dress badly for both specials, so it is in keeping with stand up comedians in general
n/a telepepper 2017-03-21
I am about 25 min in.. He keeps on petting his stomach and smelling his finger. The comedy so far is just ok..
n/a valley_pete 2017-03-21
I feel like that move is cause he isn't smoking cigs or drinking on stage? All I can think of haha.
n/a telepepper 2017-03-21
He smokes on stage during ep. 2
n/a valley_pete 2017-03-21
Welp, I'm out of ideas lol. I haven't gotten to the second yet, how is it?
n/a telepepper 2017-03-21
Better than the first I think.
n/a valley_pete 2017-03-21
Ok cool, cause I'm 45 minutes into the first and I'd give it like a 6.5 or something. I'm slightly underwhelmed but my expectations were crazy high.
n/a bambonk 2017-03-21
Whoa we got a real critic here.
n/a valley_pete 2017-03-21
No, no, I'm not a real critic.

He always did the stomach thing too. He used to just place his hand on his stomach but this one he had more of a stroking motion

It's coz he can't smoke.

The dude gave up $50 million because he didn't feel like doing the show anymore, do you think he cares what SJWs have to say?

There are two specials on Netflix. One in Cali and it is okay. 2nd one was filmed in Texas and it is very good.
n/a BigPenisMcGinty 2017-03-21
Thanks. Got it. I'm 30 mins in. He must have delivered them both and thought "fuck it". Very Dave Chappelle.
