They're still locked in for two more season (up to 14). They just finished season 12. So him leaving now is weird. But he said in a 2013 Rolling Stone interview that they were looking to end it after season 10. Mac kicked his ears in apparently (they were in the middle of penning a deal with FXX, which Im sure Howerton must've known). Even though he said it clear as day in the interview, he threw the reporter under the bus afterwards as if she got her wires crossed http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/q-a-glenn-howerton-on-getting-handed-lead-roles-but-not-emmys-20130721.
I think this nigga subconsciously wanted to get out from the show for a while; that little slip up was probably a subconscious thing. The hiatus is for Mac to go direct the Minecraft movie, which Im fine with. But breaking up the gang like this weirdly? They can just take another year to shoot 20 episodes and split them between 2 seasons, so everyone can move on...
I hope they have a whole episode where he "accidently" uses too much chemical fertilizer on a house plant and he's left to take care of its seedlings... which he promptly molests as a joke. That would make for some great comedy.
The last couple of seasons have been overstaying their welcome on a Simpsons level, so if it hastens the destruction of the show I'm for it. Not a new joke in two seasons, just endless callbacks to when it was funny.
Can't wait for more of the comedy landscape to get blighted by these SNL fucks. Seth Meyer being as successful as he is is absolute proof that we're culturally done.
This show has been going downhill for several years now, although I think this season was overall much better than the last one with that fucking Ski School parody episode. But it's been hit or miss for a while. Usually there are a couple of great episodes, a few mediocre ones and at least one or two that are absolutely terrible. It's kind of always been that way, but it's gotten worse in the past few years.
The worst offense this season was having Mac officially come out of the closet. That basically killed any humor his character ever had. I guess next season Dennis will officially become a serial killer and Dee will literally morph into a bird.
This is why, when you start running out of good ideas, you end the fucking show instead of letting fans of the show become writers. Most new episodes reek of terrible fan fiction.
I've watched every episode of IASIP an autistic amount of times. Season 11 was pretty weak, but season 12 doesn't even feel like it was written by the same people, even the episodes that were written by the creators themselves.
I don't really care bout downvotes but the fact that people here actually think this show is still producing quality episodes and feel strongly enough ab9ut it to downvote anyone criticizing it is astonishing.
They should have called it quits a couple of seasons ago. Last season had more weak episodes than it did strong and the latest season was genuinely fucking awful.
And not to get political, but a part of me is taking joy in the fact that Rob McElhenney made a big deal out of hiring more coloureds and women for this season and it has noticeably declined in quality.
The shoehorning of non-talent, thats been a deal-breaker for sure. And to quote another commenter on this thread: When a show is around for too long, the writers room gets populated with fans, instead of funny people.

The funniest thing about this so far is that -on the Always Sunny Shitposting FB page- they've started a petition asking Seth Myers to kill himself.
That shit would really get going if it started here.

What?! That one where they (Dennis and Mac) move to the suburbs is one of the best!
