His show for the last few years has been terrible song parody, terrible prerecorded call-in from celebrity impersonator, terrible fake fake phone call (these are cringe-worthy), ask A-list celebrities the same questions over and over again, new, repeat. And yes, I still listen.
As bad as the rest of the schtick is, it's hard to understate how absolutely horrible the fake phony phone calls are. They are 100% fabricated by some sort of prep-burger-like content provider, and the acting make a morning zoo antics sound like Shakespeare.
That's sad. He should have just quit instead of this shit. I don't understand that. If I was given as much money as he has I would retire at my age (32) and not do shit for the next 40 years. I don't get this work ethic thing.
Yes - Sal and Richard are the only reason I listen to the show. Those two should have started their own show five years ago, as they are completely wasted on Howard, and have gotten less and less air time as the years have gone on.

He's used fake callers for a long time, the difference is that he used a higher end services. A big scandal in the Stern world was when the Electric Eel stuff came out. Electric Eel was a big one that worked with Mancow and Stern mostly, the downfall came when he mentioned on his website that he did work for Stern, and then tried to offer similar bits to O/A, etc..... The most famous being the stuffed daughter bit (in three parts) -
