I've no idea how he got so famous. He did the Man Show for a while, took s kong break, then came back and is hosting a late show. It made me extremely smug and douchey too, I've noticed. He used to seem like a humble, funny guy, but every interview I've seen him doing since h started doing a late show is full of condescension.
He was the guy who allegedly killed his pregnant wife Lacey in Northern California at least a decade ago. He had a mistress, Amber Fry, who recorded their phone calls and blew the whistle on him.
There is a Carolla connection--his podcast partner Mark Geragos defended Peterson but they lost the case despite no direct physical evidence.
It was just a commentary on how the general population doesn't dig hearing about heinous repugnant shit. Hence Kimmel's popularity. I know for instance OnA spent about a week talking about that Peterson case when it happened- with parody songs and what not. This is when I personally became a fan of the radio show.
