Crashing

Had its big premiere on HBO tonight. Had a lot of good comic cameos, including Big Jay. It showcased prominent roles for Chelsea Peretti and Artie Lange. The show is really trying to tap into the pulse of the NY stand-up scene. The problem is, it revolves around the sensibilities of Pete Holmes and Apatow. That dual stench is pretty much impossible to overcome.

What the fuck are you talking about?

The new half hour HBO comedy series about stand-up Crashing starring and created by shitty Pete Holmes with overriding creative influence by shitty Judd Apatow. Featuring in its premiere episode, and presumably for season remainder, plum roles and memorable cameos by funny NY comics.

I recorded it but haven't watched yet. I was surprised the NY Times pretty much to a shit on it and Holmes considering Apatow's lib stance. I expected them to hail it like Girls. Arguably the greatest thing to happen to bitches since divorce lawyers and abortion. Unless your a man then it's insufferable.

centered on a white male comic.

That's the key line of the review. Plus Artie is open about being center-right politically.

But Artie has said on so many occasions that he refuses to use the n word. Him and Gilbert recently started a petition to remove it from the English language altogether.

Except when he has money on an NBA game

Tears of laughter listening to that podcast...holy shit! I can't fathom ole jew appatow hearing that and liking it haha..

The problem is they kept a lot of easy, first thought jokes in. I know Apatow lets em improv but Im guessing there wasnt stringer kines written. Oh and Dante Neri makes an appearance not as a comic but as a tow truck driver bone in ear and all.

wasnt stringer kines

Appreciate you thumb shaming me. Apatow would not like that!

That was that DJ Qualls lookin bitch from comedy bang bang and all those other unfunny alt comedy podcasts, all those ucb fanboys seem worship her and think shes gonna be the next big thing in comedy. fucking yuck. Just googled her to find her name, laura lapkis she plays one of the dykes on that faggoty womans prison show orange the new black

I thought it was alright. Artie is really funny in it. I'll continue to watch it.

The biggest problem is Pete. I love his podcast, but he's just not that good of an actor. Everyone else was great, especially Artie.

I just wanted to say that you're awesome <3. If you're feeling down, Here is a picture of my chiuahua, Cheech. -siikdude :)

Pete Holmes has the most annoying laugh in all of podcasting. Also he looks like a retarded John Ritter. Thats all I got to contribute to this topic! later nigs

won' t you come and knock on our door

I'd like to introduce you to fat man named Stav...

Yeah hes a close second. Holmes and Ricky Gervais are always #1

Jimmy Carr is shite as well

I really hope Artie gets a main role on the show. I'm still baffled that Jud hired him in the first place.

Keep your enemies close.

i enjoyed it ... but its obviously a L.A directors idea of NYC stand up comedy ... artie and jay were excellent

its obviously a L.A directors idea of NYC stand up comedy

Well that certainly sounds like shit.

I still don't really know who Pete Holmes is, keep thinking it's the Stangel smasher guy. Not sure I want to know. There's something annoying about that name.

He is a former youth pastor doing stand up. Is funnier than I just made him sound, is about the level of sensitive bitch you would assume

As a counter-argument, I find Pete Holmes to be obnoxiously unfunny. Really self-absorbed and stupid, too. He sounds like a someone with a tenth grade education and grasp on reality. He's awful.

On the other hand of that, I find him obnoxiously funny. I'd probably hate him in real life, but as a personal, it makes me laugh.

He is someone with a tenth grade education and grasp on reality. He's religious.

It was a brilliant start! Artie was hilarious.

The show is really trying to tap into the pulse of the NY stand-up scene.

LA and NYC never learn. Their self-importance and the delusion that the rest of the country gives a fuck about them is astounding.

Just the other day someone was complaining that "butt hurt" is a juvenile term that should never be used again ever. I'll bet it was you.

I can't think of a single show yet that has done anything with the LA scene, you NEVER see it, closest anything has come at all is maybe Maron. (And that's like an exaggerated reality of it) They have Im Dying Up Here coming out on Showtime, they don't have "life rights" to anything, so now the entire show that took place in awesome 70s Sunset blvd LA has to be completely made up. What's the fucking point, then?

I really like seeing the NY scene and New York comics represented. Maybe it's cause I miss the place, but I can't believe how many times I've seen the Cellar and The Stand on screen, it's been in half a dozen movies and TV shows over the last 3-4 years, not to mention on Louie every single episode. I wish they had the same ethos out here, but everyone is so full of fucking shit. It's a shame.

Nothing about anything described here sounds remotely watchable. Apatow? Holmes? Big jay? Fuck you.

Yeah, a show about a fucked up comic could be great. But not done by that heeb. Artie writing it himself would be interesting. Apatow doesn't know about any dark side. He was a spoiled kike who has been successfully producing movies for 20 years. There's no "I smoked crack to escape my demons" moment with that faggot.

I'll give it a shot, but there's a UK show called Crashing that we ripped through in 2 hours on NetFlix that was pretty decent. Reminded me of Scrubs.

who's "we"

Ive had it with Judd Apatow, I don't like Pete Holmes. (Shocking, another completely emasculated male character; he catches the woman cheating on him and somehow manages to make it his fault)

That said, I really liked this. Way more than I was expecting. Pete Holmes is the perfect guy for this, I really liked Judd's movies up until This Is 40, because even under the dick and fart jokes, they always had a John Hughes-y heart to them. This show has that too. (At least the first episode. Let's see what happens.) Artie is a great actor.

They shot it on 35mm, but I don't know why they would bother. It's all location shooting, a lot of it at night. I think digital would work better. Should have gone with Alexa Mini's.

Only Holmes I care about is John Holme's

Critics ya can't kill'em blah blah blah blah.

I just watched this and I was gonna post a thread until I saw this one.

Holmes + Apatow + Birbiglia. I wasn't even gonna watch when I saw those connections. I gave it a shot, and I really fucking liked it.

And fans of OA and the comedy scene we all like should like this. Seemed close to real life compared to most crap on tv about that business. Really surprised me how good it was. Tons of cameos from people we love or hate from OA and surrounding world.

it wasn't bad. but it's supposed to take place like 15 years ago, but the setting is current day, and it's really off-putting
