I'd rather listen to Opie. There's something absolutely grating about that octaroon's voice, his talentless, hack style, and endless repetition of his "jokes." He has no business being in front of a mic, but would probably make a good producer.

He gets really exposed when he's on Red Eye, where he can't control the direction of the conversation and has to fend for himself among real comedians. He sticks out like a sore, talentless thumb.

Noone liked him before he got the show with Jim, but suddenly everyone felt the need to like him because he is better than Opie. Remember all the abuse he got when he was a coffee fetcherer? That should always count when evaluating someone. Respectable people weren't treated like that.

I always liked Sam. He knows his strengths & limitations, he doesn't overplay his hand. He generally does his job & sticks to what he knows, and doesn't suffer from crippling insecurity and constant paranoia. I always like smart asses and shit stirrers, so maybe Im partial. Sam is a natural at that, so I liked him well enough. He makes me laff. (E's laffin)

If he knew his limitations he wouldn't have pushed for so long to be a radio host. Also, he doesn't "stick to what he knows" otherwise all of his shows would just be about wrestling, processed food and mediocre mainstream music. Granted, he was occasionally entertaining on O&A as a shit stirrer and provider of bits but his voice is headache inducing and he generally blows. In my humble opinion.

My girlfriend and i have always been and continue to be HUGE fans of the Sam Roberts experience. Jim kind of brings him down a bit, and I've always thought he could be a bit more wordy, but that bit with CQ about Scorch WAS entertaining. Thanks for the opinion OP, glad we agree.

The problem is the three main shows have basically become on the same show. Why the fuck do they need guests all the time. The Salacious Sam Roberts would take an occasional call on the pre & post o&a shows, but rarely had guests. Having guests has become a crutch for all of them...

Sam needs to realise that Derek is not an interesting or funny person. I don't know why he feels the need to dedicate 25% of each show to repetitive, boring Derek talk. Some staff over the years have been actually interesting people, but he isn't one of them. Don't try to force it, Roberts.
