i agree with you, all of it was so carefully planned. he was "silent" for years after that bit where he lost the bet and had to "be silent" on the radio. it was absurdist comedy, I think they were doing it to see how far they could go with pushing artistic interpretation before their corporate boss would just fire them for being fucking stupid and not talking on their radio show.
