You are an idealist, and British I'm guessing. God bless you, sir, but as an old school fan (who's now old) I can't fathom a reunion that would be good or even interesting.
Yup, British as they come. I've been listening via. Youtube etc for about six years so relatively new to it. I'm not trying to convince anybody that it'll be good or that people should give them a chance - personally I can't stand either of them at this point. My overall point was that as a fan of what it used to be, I'm a little curious to see what happens.
I find him to have many, many flaws that add up to an incredibly annoying person, but in combination with Ant he undeniably makes amazing radio. They somehow cancel out each other's weaknesses. I don't expect a reunion to be as great as the old days, now that we know what seething hatred lies under the surface of their relationship, and how phony their on-air friendliness is, but I think they still have some chemistry. I personally can't wait to see what happens.
I don't get why people say this. I've spent years watching old shows and they made good radio IN SPITE of Opie being there. He adds nothing. They never had chemistry, it was Ant being funny and Opie saying annoying unfunny shit in the background every once in a while. I think the only reason people look back and think he had any skill whatsoever was that he talked in a radio cadence and had a habit of over introducing whatever article or audio they were about to cover which gave the show a more "radio" feel instead of just guys being funny.
My conclusion about him comes from the observation that shows without him tended to be lacking in something. They were funny, but kind of boring and slow-paced. There wasn't that frenetic energy and those gut-busting peaks of humor. Jimmy and Ant just didn't seem to know what to do with themselves. I think Opie's controlling presence, his lack of self-awareness, his bizarre thoughts on things, his obsession with moving the show along from section to section, his cringey attempts at humor, his annoying OCD ticks, they all somehow created an environment where Jimmy and Ant were able to hit their peaks.
It's complete dumb luck and I don't think Opie even understood how they were able to do good radio. A host like Ronnie B knows exactly what the audience wants and exactly how to manifest it. Opie is like the Mr. Magoo version of that.
I don't care how many salient points you make, trying to convince us to accept Opie is like trying to convince a neo-nazi to try to watch interracial gay jew porn.
I'm not saying accept Opie. I was just asking if ya'all aren't at least curious to see what happens? Personally I don't like either of them these days but I'll keep an open mind about this reunion. I'm an optimistic faggot.
Read the first paragraph then scrolled to the bottom to look for Peckas. Whatever you wrote I'm just gonna say I disagree wholeheartedly and I also wanna add your a giant piece of G.
I could go into the spelling of my username but it's a long, boring story with almost no redeeming value in being retold. Suffice to say it's a purposeful misspelling for reasons neither important or your business.
I would think out of the gates, they'd have a strong-ish initial pop... but they wouldn't have Jimmy, for better or worse. Right? I'm pretty sure their stupid beef is still pretty fresh. And it seems people's most fond remembrance of O and A is when they had the third mic comic.
So if not Jimmy, then who? Any comic that used to do their show a lot either has their own podcast, does more shit now and has a podcast, or doesn't want to be associated with Anthony (I don't think Opie and Anthony getting together again is going to make those disillusioned by Anthony suddenly not be, is it?)
And speaking of which, Anthony might get less racist-ranty with someone like Opie ship steering, but any time it comes up, he still will get racist-ranty. Which will be a lot given the times we are in. So he's not going to change much, and maybe even more importantly, Opie doesn't like his racist-ranty behavior.
So for that alone not to mention the other stuff it's just a matter of time before they implode again isn't it?

Fair point. I'd obviously check it out. And no disrespect to the U.K, I'm a non resident British subject.

TLDR : This sub is full of delusional haters that don't get how magical the reunion of a show minus the current funniest member will be.

I thought this would be praising him for raising someone else's kid. Instead I got aids. Well played.
