Amadeus is a great film and he deservedly won the Oscar for it. Apparently he was "difficult" on sets afterwards (maybe let the Oscar win go to his head) and is now a cautionary tale of unrealised potential - "The F. Murray Abraham syndrome" - but the guy's pushing 80 and came off as still being a "lad." Maybe he's too much of a real guy for the fruits in Hollywood. Would love to have a few drinks with him and hear more of his stories.
Mandy Patinkin being a major asshole is why he basically dropped off the map for so many years. Homeland basically brought him back into the mainstream.
So that's why he's gone. He should do a remake of Zorba the Greek. He's perfect for the part. I am going to assume he's already done a remake of Fiddler on the Roof.
