I've been waiting for this my whole life.

This is quite boring actually. I thought it'd be interesting because he eventually talks about his 17 year old flame. But Howard does not know how to cut to the chase.

That song and the Gilbert Seinfeld bits were probably the hardest they went after him, aside from one really nasty time during the news, that I can't find.

I never got the hype about Howard. Much like Opie, he manages to surround himself with interesting people that makes for good radio. But when it comes to the "legendary" talent, I just don't see it - with the exception of his interviewing skills.

In their prime it took both O&A to play the role of 1 Howard. Howard played both roles by himself - and actually with the anchor of an unfunny black hole sidekick to drag him down. Over the years he's made me laugh with precise, hilarious observations you'd expect from Anth or Jim. When it comes to playing the opie role, Howard improved upon opie's skilless ship steering. In his prime, when his main goal seemed to be that of a terrorist of hollywood, he had every last one of them shaken with fear, and it was so amusing. Because he did it with dick jokes and by sending retarded stuttering idiots out to harass them. Say what you want about Howard being a faggy old queen now, but that guy was fucking hilarious at one time and even if he didn't invent the "genre" of radio, everything he did build on top of that was top notch satire, some of it taken to sociopathic levels. He may not have even been the quickest with with funny lines (evidence of him having to hire Writers live on air) but the general direction he would take and the people he attacked were always so odd but somehow so satisfying. Dressing a drunk midget up like a bunny on easter and sending him out to a live broadcast with a sign around his neck that says "Lorne Michaels sent me here" to frame him... that's just so weirdly specific, and you know it bothered someone important, but they made it happen and it made news anyway.

The excitement and thrill of when O&A would interrupt live broadcasts felt like it was happening every day on the Stern show in the 90's, because their fame was so heightened, they had real power and could affect things in the media just by talking about it, which also seemed to make them laugh. Which was thrilling in its own way, and their intent always seemed to be to fuck with people or to be as childish as possible, which O&A perfected as well. I am just trying to explain why some of us fags overlap with Stern and O&A fandom. pecka

I appreciate you going so in-depth with this. Could you link me to one/some of the best examples of Howard's expertise?

Alright, I'm not living up to your expectations here, but off the top of my head this is a random clip of him trashing Michael Jackson, which was always a favorite. The part where he calls Barbara Walters a crummy fluff artist interview because she didn't pick up on the Doctor comment... it was just a good point, and it turns out Jackson died thanks to his shitty bedside Doctors...
