Is he really that bad? I thought he was alright, but I don't know that much about him. I do find his obnoxious "HE'S THE SMARTEST GUY EVER" fanbase insufferable, but that's not his fault. I always like hating stuff though, so tell me what he did.
For one he's been called out numerous times making stories up, like what went on when he worked for the Bush Administration. He fibs constantly for laughs.
I had no idea about that. Although, that particular thing seems to be pretty minor, the guy said something and was embarrassed to admit his mistake. I can tell by his response he doesn't like to be wrong (who does?), but he should have handled his mistake like an adult.
Of course he had to imply his lefty garbage in his statement, though. I definitely will take him a little less seriously. Once a scientist starts getting political they lose credibility with me.

His hipster fans don't even know anything about astrophysics, he's just the guy that's hip to be a fan of and they don't even know why. Kinda like Obama.

he's fine, but if you watch and listen to a lot of his stuff you realize it's repetitive, he's more charming bill nye the science guy but I am pretty sure that the best minds in science look at him like we look at burger king, shitty low level stuff not on par with panera bread magic.
There's almost no overlap between "great scientist" and "great talker", and there's almost complete overlap between "great talker" and 'self absorbed dickhead".
He's a good spokesman for science, I don't mind if he jacks off thinking about his tv credits.

I really don't like the man but can't pinpoint why. He has the cadence of someone telling a bedtime story to a retard, almost Roganesque in his unnecessary dramatic intonation. He claims to want to make physics accessible to a wider audience but sounds patronizing as fuck.
We get it the universe is full of wonder, Carl Sagan didn't have his head up his own ass while trying to teach laypeople.
