He was loud, boisterous, opinionated, arrogant, and weirdly rational. So I always imagined he was miserable when left to his own thoughts. Going by the number of times he brought up his disappointment at not really being with most people off the air, or outside of projects. Or at least not to the extent it seemed like on air.
He was smart as shit, and the other half of that analytical reasoning is usually hating the world, and yourself. So it was unfortunate how many opportunities he missed, and even more so that he was gaining conventional notoriety, right before he passed away.
I remember him saying on O&A that he had a chance to move up on the Office and he wasn't interested, or he said something to someone that got someone pissed off.
