January 2002 | February 2002 | March 2002 | April 2002

  • Stinky gets into a massive argument/physical altercation with a bunch of strippers, resulting in the station’s “killswitch” switching the station's signal to a Van Halen song while the situation is sorted out.

  • Ken Stevens tells O&A live on the air that their agent, which he calls Super Agent Bob Eatman, signed off rather quickly to syndication deals with Harrisburg, Allentown and Scranton Wilkes-Barre.

  • Jimmy had a cameo in the new Spider Man movie and his improvised line was a huge hit among fans and people in the studio. It is his most well-known motion picture appearance to date.

  • Tom the drunk radio guy from New Orleans has been fired from his radio station.

  • Steve C saw Star Wars Episode II at an advance screening. They all agree that Episode I was too cutesy, but Steve gives Episode II a glowing review. He says George Lucas learned from his mistakes in Episode I and the romantic subplot wasn't a huge part of this movie. Jimmy, angry as ever, complains that people who wait in line for movies are awful and should go home and fuck their girlfriends.

  • They play the 'Trainables' clip for the first time

  • Ant says that one time when he was with Rotgut he went on stage in a dress and sang "I Am Woman"

  • Opie & Anthony Money Snatch: girls come in studio to pick up dollar bills off the studio floor with their pussies or something. Stalker Patti wants to do it because she's broke again and her subsidized housing is continually at risk of getting taken away because she can never seem to come up with the money. The religious women who own the house she lives at have refused to let Patti engage in such gross on-air behavior and tell her they will kick her out if she participates in the contest. The boys, along with Keith the Cop, insist that the women have no legal recourse for kicking her onto the curb on such short notice, so Patti agrees to do the contest. But after an hour of screaming back and forth with the women, they basically say Patti is dead to them. In need of money and a roof over her head, everybody in studio chips in $900 dollars as long as she lets them shave her head completely bald again. She agrees to have her head shaved at a later date, but in the mean time she ends up at a women's shelter.

  • O&A go on a proto-Travelling Virus Tour and stop at WYSP in Philadelphia for another "weird stuff" show. This is where the legendary Dead Monkey Hummer happens.

  • The boys saw a Kid Rock show and during the show Kid Rock unfurled a massive Confederate flag, which Anthony said made him feel a little uncomfortable.

  • Jimmy constantly fucks with people in public when he hangs around O&A. He will fart in elevators, tell strangers to hold the elevator door and then not go in, tell strangers they dropped something, whisper in people’s ears and then look away like he’s talking to somebody else, dropping random conversational tidbits in public like “…I’m not telling her I have AIDS, it’s none of her business. I don’t need to use a rubber if I don’t want to.”

  • Opie actually said "say it don't spray it" to someone

  • Serial killer discussion makes for a classic Jimmy laugh moment

  • As the boys continue to look for a home for Patti, who left the women's shelter after fearing for her own safety, a creepy caller named Eddie offers for Patti to stay with him and his young daughter. Doubting that his motives are sincere, Anthony asks him why he's offering his home to Patti, and asks him what about his past is Eddie trying to make up for. Eddie says "murder," which leads to one of the longest and most entertaining bits of the shows WNEW days.

  • Ron Bennington mocks Jim for trying to be too hip and obscure with his references. A lot of times Jimmy will just say verbatim a quote from Caligula or The Godfather to demonstrate how well he knows such critically respected films.

  • The boys debut tracks from The Eminem Show weeks prior to the album's scheduled release. They immediately receive a cease and desist fax from Interscope, read it over the air, then play more Eminem tracks.

  • Greggshells episode, followed by Opie muttering that he would've nailed a joke if Jim didn't beat him to it. Jimmy still hadn't been trained to not attack Opie yet.

  • Opie and Anthony are dumped in Seattle but are surging in NYC, Philadelphia and Boston.

  • Steve O comes into the studio to drop cue balls onto his head, funnel beers into his ass, and get into arguments with his junkie girlfriend

  • O&A are mad that Tom Leykis, another broadcaster in the Midwest, is ripping off WoW with Flash ‘Em Out Friday.

  • Mike Piazza apparently had to release a statement to the press claiming that he ISN'T gay.

  • They have Don West in studio to do his legendary pitch thing. It sucks because Anthony is more energetic and has a funnier impression of Don than Don himself.

  • Steve the Whistler

  • After bashing Opie & Anthony on their show, Don from WNEW's mid-day show Don & Mike calls up and argues with the boys. He claims that, while O&A may lead in their target demographic in NYC, they're struggling in Washington and are trending downward. Before Opie hangs up on him, Don mentions that O&A always request to have the hallways cleared before they get into the office every day. O&A both deny this.

  • Opie says that having a radio partner satellite-fed in to pretend he's a co-host is impossible.

  • Anthony tells a story attributing his dark sense of humor to his pet cat Smokey, which he found on the sidewalk half-flatted by a car and decomposed by maggots that had eaten away into its ribcage.

  • Jim says one of his first projects he ever did was called White Chicks, Inc. It looks pretty terrible.

  • Opie said he was so poor as a kid that his dad used to apply vinegar to his skin instead of sunscreen.

  • After taking a week off, Opie claims that the press has been in a tizzy speculating over why O&A haven't been on the air. Opie, always quick to play the victim, says that they took their vacation and an extra day or two because Opie's dear grandma Helen Hughes died at 92 of "double pneumonia" and he "had to watch her die all weekend." He seems to be taking this significantly harder than his other grandma, who he once said he is "glad is dead" and who he sat and waited in the car for while his mom comforted her in her final hours. Opie then says that this tragic weekend was also worsened by the fact that he had to tell his father about his own mother Helen's death while his father was in the hospital for heart issues. He then spins it to say that it's disgraceful for Don and Mike to have been starting a radio war against him during this difficult time, although I don't think Don and Mike could have possibly known about the health issues of Opie's grandmother since he said "it happened suddenly" and since it appears to be the first time he ever brought her health up on the air.

  • Jimmy just moved into an expensive new apartment now that he's getting some of that O&A money.

  • Classic clip of an idiot caller listening to his own voice on the radio.

Opie said he was so poor as a kid that his dad used to apply vinegar to his skin instead of sunscreen.

Nigga please. Some people put vinegar on sunburns but it doesn't prevent them, that lying cuck.

Started listening around then. Hearing a radio show descend into complete chaos until the station hit the kill switch was pretty crazy to me at the time.

The Eddie the Murderer thing was really great. I was so wrapped up in it for the next couple of days.

Ant dressed as a woman and sang "I Am Woman"...

Sue Lightning, comment?

When Don called O&A, and Opie hung up on him, Don and Mike did a whole show about O&A the next day. Then O&A took off for the funeral. The next show O&A did, they just talked about the Osbournes. They didn't respond to Don and Mike.

"The boys saw a Kid Rock show and during the show Kid Rock unfurled a massive Confederate flag, which Anthony said made him feel a little uncomfortable." Lol

"Jimmy constantly fucks with people in public when he hangs around O&A. I bet this was made up. Jimmy was different when he started on O&A.

They didn't respond to Don and Mike

Management told them both to stop the feud and Don and Mike were suspended (from WNEW anyway) while O&A were gone.

But that show was brutal. Don mainly shit on Opie, I don't remember Anthony getting shit on as bad. The best part was when Don mocked Opie's skateboarding at 40 lifestyle. I wish it was online.

Opie didn't skateboard though, you're thinking about Bam Margera. Opie Rollerblades

He used to talk about skateboarding back when he was pretending he was in his 20s.

Mike said that Anthony's only imitation was Dice, and they made fun of how Anthony looked.

Mike did have better Tyson and Schwarzenegger impressions than Ant.

They made fun of his pock marks actually, which prompted Ant to mention on air that he spent the weekend "shopping for his accutane"

Too bad the Don & Mike audio isn't out there. Sounds like they beat O&A at their own game

It's weird a site where they archived all the D&M shows has every episode leading up to the show but not that one. They only put up Don calling into O&A.

We have got to cut a clip of the Confederate flag line and send to Ant

Anthony was fairly even-handed back in those days. When the Dixie Chix were boycotted for saying the anti-Bush stuff and major radio station banned them from the air waves Anthony defended their freedom of speech and also was very angry about that one radio station who fired their DJs for playing one of the banned songs on-air.

Cut to six years later recalling that incident and Anthony was suddenly pro-boycott.

Ant also seemed to act like the Panzerfaust record guy was extreme.

Gods work being done on this humble sub right before our eyes

The thing about that Greggshells episode that gets me.....I SWEAR it was a few months back. That was a great month! No fucking way is that 2002 yet I know exactly where I was when I heard it.....damn

Time's a bitch...ask Mark Gastineau

"hey dick!" God Almighty. Norton makes a decent joke and Opie has to explain that a nurse fetish exists. Truth bomb dropped successfully , Mr Hughes!

Thank you for your servish

You're weeeelcome

opie has always been a piece of shit; with not one redeeming quality

That's the worst part for me, really. I listened from 2010-2014 and I recall there being only minor annoyances (the way he coughed up phlegm whenever he pronounced g-syllable words, the way he said "howl" constantly), but I never noticed how difficult it is listening around him. His pettiness, narcissism, and thin skin is blatantly apparent in these re-listens.

Damn! I really remember this month. It may have been one of their best. Obligatory "Thank you for your service." These recaps are really, really good.

It was a great month. When they aren't doing the obvious shock jock stuff like having naked chicks in studio, they really started killing it around this time

My brother used to have the Flash Friday sticker. He swore it happened all the time (it didn't). Side question: is the dead monkey hummer someone blowing a dead monkey, or am I missing something?

He fucked a dead monkey in the mouth, as a matter of fact!

It was a different time. A better time, some would say. Thanks for the report.

Where the hell did they get a dead monkey from?

They did a "bring weird stuff in" show and one guy had a bunch of like fetuses and medical abnormalities preserved in jars full of formaldehyde. He had a dead monkey in one, and they took it out and he put it on his dick. At one point he got dared to lick the formaldehyde but Anthony wisely said that he'd probably die. Amazing how much leeway they had back then from management.

I think it's worth noting that opie almost fucked that dumb caller bit up.

Thank you for your autism.

"Stinky gets into a massive argument/physical altercation with a bunch of strippers"

Anyone have link?

Did Garrett get fisted? I never heard him break monotone before.

I love this part of the spectrum.

Thanks for the write up! Could you put the air date for each segment for the future ones?

I love these.

you know what dude I've read every single one of these reports so far.

They're good.

[Spider Man] is [Jimmy's] most well-known motion picture appearance to date.

To date meaning May 2002 or January 2017?

January 2017

Opie didn't skateboard though, you're thinking about Bam Margera. Opie Rollerblades
