Your vocabulary is about what I'd expect. A contrarian is someone who rejects popular opinion and the majority stance on something. It can also be someone who says no "just because."

His "culture" tastes, like comedy, are very mainstream because he doesn't know anything except for music, MMA, energy drinks, and other Jason Ellisisms. His musical tastes are contrarian because, to him, the only way is saying everything else is garbage for idiots and children and other Florentine statements of alpha dawg daddies.
His music tastes aren't even contrarian though. He's actually known for enouraging artists to not be contrarian, you dope. Did you even listen to the fucking show? He's never said or implied that liking certain music makes you an idiot.
