Why don't you honor and cherish everything self-called "black intellectuals" do? You're obviously a racist. And if you're black you're an uncle Tom. And if you're Mexican I want to buy some shit off you
Imagine the backlash if you wrote a play about the Obamas and cast Kevin James as Barack and Gwyneth Paltrow as Michelle.
There would be riots in the streets.
There probably were protests about it, but they were written off as racist or ignorant or KKK and chicks just bought into it and ignored them by judgmentally shaking their heads and believing they have it all figured out, placating blacks is our duty as Americans.
Fair is fair though, there's a pretty long history of theater where it was an all white cast playing black people. It's a big hit in the Cumia household.
That's worse than I imagined, and I was imagining pretty fucking bad. This is proof that guilty white people will sit through anything if they can use it as a talisman against accusations of racism.
Have any of you East Coast fellows seen the Book of Mormon? Always thought the online previews for it looked funny and was probably the only Broadway play not dripping with over-the-top, campy homosexuality.
I tried. Found it incredibly boring. Everyone I know that loves it told me to wait until the second season before it'll really click for me. I don't have time to waste 13 or so hours of a show I'm not into.
Never listened to anything from it, but I randomly clicked this....why the fuck did anyone write all this shit about Hamilton? This looks so boring and gay

Larry David: ‘Hamilton’ success helped by white people trying ‘to solidify their liberal bona fides’

I'm having second-thoughts about Pence. He sat through this shit?

He was just there to scare and upset the gays and liberals

Could someone please explain to me why there aren't protests over this self indulgent, self congratulating liberal suck fest?
The producers actively cast minorities only in full violation of the EEOC. They cast minorities in the roles of historical whites people.

yes, we've heard this before. Welcome to topics from 6 months ago. Anything else you want to discuss? How about Memorial Day BBQ plans?

Stop trying to act like you understand government regulation

I'm an attorney. I wish I were pretending to understand it.

First Am. artistic expression preempts EEOC.
I thought it would be a bfoq, but I guess ethnicity is not exempt.

Who gives a shit? Are you actually acting upset over a fucking broadway show?
1 _TheConsumer_ 2016-11-30
I'm not upset. I don't agree with the show or its message - so I won't see it. The end.
I'm just discussing the hypocrisy behind it.

I just wish there was some place I could turn to for an open and honest discussion about race.

Everyone is a minority except the white girl, gee I wonder why
2 literalotherkin 2016-11-30
“Hamilton” may be making history on Broadway, but Larry David, for one, is curbing his enthusiasm."

The Wire is great, what are you talking about? It's up there with Sopranos.
And I refuse to say if I fit in your criteria or not, no matter how accurate it is.

A lot of people in this sub revel at the idea of having no black friends so you're not making a persuading case.

0 literalotherkin 2016-11-30
You'd be amazed how many people I get into an argument about America with down here in Oz who cite 'The Wire' as evidence or racism in America.
1 Mr702law 2016-11-30
That's interesting. I have yet to watch the wire but have been meaning to. I think you just ruined it for me.
1 boofk 2016-11-30
I thought it was good, but not great like everyone else. Sopranos was a lot better.

Can someone name a Broadway musical that's not fucking gay?
1 the_kronkez 2016-11-30
I heard the Book of Mormon is good - don't know about the gay though.
-1 heslaotian 2016-11-30
I think it's pretty good.
