Has anyone read/listened to Norm's book?

I got the audible for a long flight. It is the weirdest thing I've ever listened to.

Yes. It's a fucking great read - as good as Carlin's Last Words. It's a good book on its own merits, not just because it's one of the best comedian autiobiographies.
It's honestly quite eerie and disturbing in some places. If Norm didn't actually have Charles Manson (no relation) as a ghostwriter, he's a hell of a serious writer as well as a funny one.

I don't know if I'd call it an autobiography. lol most of it is just made up nonsense. Funny yes, but not true.

It's based on a true story.
Also, I said 'comedian autobiography', which usually means a half-bright guy wracked by bone-deep insecurity and self-loathing coupled with a nearly pathological need for attention taking us on a vaguely accurate trip through his major life events, padded out with transcriptions of his favourite bits.

I'm not saying I don't like it. And I like the based on a true story angle. But it's fucking weird.

The Jesse Ventura Story (the movie) was "based on a true story" and went on to put him in situations he was never close to or had the slightest thing to do with.

Norm's book is called Based on a True Story.
I only half believed that he met God and tried to transcribe the Almighty's message to mankind. The bit about mainlining morphine with Lorne Michaels was pretty believable.

Reading the book now. For some reason I expected something more normal. It's weird and maybe half of it isn't true? Really enjoying it though

There's no maybe. He didn't go to jail for putting a hit out on Dave attell and I'm pretty sure he didn't take a make a wish 9 year old to Canada to kill a seal and the kid miraculously recovered to a point it was written up in medical journals.
And then there's all the gambling stories

I was that 9 year old kid. I still have the baby seal slippers. Comfy as fuck.

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a book... or read one. Norm basically turning Adam Egret into a childish moron for the entire book was so fucking hysterical.
"You see, everything happens for a reason Nor-" Gabe was interrupted by Adam Egret
"YOU MEAN LIKE WHEN I HAVE MY LUCKY CHARMS IN THE MORNING IT HAPPENS FOR A REASON?"

There's another funny line where they are talking about drinking and I think it's Adam who said he stopped drinking because he was using it to escape from the reality of life. Norm says isn't that why anyone does anything?

"This is the exact spot Sam Kinnison died."
Adam Eget became emotional and started weeping like a woman or a child. He kicked the ground and shouted out:
"ITS NOT FAIR! ITS NOT FAIR NORM! HOW CAN A GREAT GUY LIKE SAM BE DEAD AND A SON OF A BITCH LIKE NELSON MANDELA GETS TO LIVE!"
